general appearance
Erebos is of average height and on the thinner side. He's got a high metabolism and, while he doesn't play any sports, he's quite active which has given him a moderately fit physique. He has warm undertones in his skin from his Spanish heritage as well as dark hair and eyes. His eyes are mostly brown but they tend to have a honey colored glow to them most days and can even appear amber at times. His hair is straight and somewhat shaggy, though he does style it. When he's not in house robes he is typically found in some sort of graphic tee-shirt and a pair of ripped jeans. Erebos isn't a huge fan of jewelry but he does have both his ears pierced and slightly gauged. He also wears a leather bracelet that his father gave him before his passing.

character history
"It is I, Erebos, God of Darkness. No, I'm only fooling around-- though the story of my name is always a fun one. When mamá was pregnant with me I would always give her the worst trouble at night. Morning sickness? Nope, she'd have it at 3am. Cravings? Dad claimed the 24 hour joint by our house expected him at least once a week by the time I was just the size of a grapefruit. And, of course, those few weeks before I was born. Every night at midnight I'd wake her with contractions. They would rush out of bed, head to the hospital, and of course it'd stop. Apparently this happened ever night for two weeks. Finally one evening just as the sun had went down her water broke and, well, here I am now.

For the longest time it was just me, mamá, and dad. I guess having a night owl for a child was hard on them because they had told me a lot that they weren't having anymore. Looking back it was probably more to do with issues they had between them, but I always felt like it was my fault. When I was five mamá got pregnant again. Woops. My dad wasn't exactly happy about it and we were having a hard enough time getting on with just us three. See, I know all this stuff because my mamá, she doesn't hide anything from me. She told me all about how my father's drinking started to get out of hand when I was just a toddler. About how he wasn't always the nicest to her and how she would go to the casino just to get away from him. I mean, it's probably just an excuse she uses to condone her gambling habit, but I don't question her about it. Anyway, when Adeline was born nobody was too thrilled about it. Nobody, except me.

I had always wanted a sibling. I had begged for one, actually, and after six years I had finally got one! But my excitement about playing with the little sprout was....a lot for my parents I guess. Coupled with my incessant need to be awake at night I was really causing a disturbance. I'd go in and wake the baby at all hours just to have a moment of playtime without my parents getting on me about how careful I needed to be and what I was and was not allowed to do. I just wanted to hold her and talk with her, but it'd always end up her screaming because I woke her and then my parents screaming at me for waking everyone. I wouldn't quit, though. Mamá was always away to gamble and dad was either out drinking or home and too drunk to pay us any attention. So I decided I would give her all of my attention and that'd make things better for the both of us.

In 2008, just two years after Adeline was born, my father passed away. He had been on his way home from the bar, a bit too fat in the bag I suppose, and got into a car wreck. Like I said we were barely getting on with all of us before and now my mamá was down to one paycheck and three mouths to feed. Things very abruptly got worse for Adeline and myself. My mamá, well, she didn't quit her gambling. No, actually, it got worse. A lot worse. She had it in her head that if she could just take her paycheck and turn it over for a jackpot we'd be set for the month. A very few times that actually worked and in my youth and innocence I would actually cheer for her to win whenever she left the house. I've always been an optimist, but I couldn't help but want a change after a while. It didn't take long before she couldn't afford a babysitter. She'd leave me with Adeline all by ourselves and we were quite young. I managed with the both of us for a while but then there was no food. Eventually no water, with no money to pay the bill. I felt as thought I needed to find some place better for my sister and I....or at least better circumstances.

The idea came to me and I still to this day am not sure what made me think it, but I decided that two could play at her games. I began betting her on things she would most certainly lose. I bet the fridge wouldn't be full by the end of the weekend. I bet that she couldn't find a single pair of trainers in Adeline's size-- I assured her that I had looked, it was near impossible. I would bet her any and everything and in doing so, I managed to get our lives a bit on track again. And it was a good thing too because when I turned eleven I received my letter stating that I would be going to Hogwarts the following school year. With all the bets I was winning I felt assured that my sister would do well in my absence. I had managed to save us up a bit of money-- kept it hid from mamá, I certainly did-- and I even managed to buy all my own supplies with it. That first year I would owl mamá little bets nearly every week and, like clockwork, she'd lose to me. I made sure she left the funds to Adeline and things went well enough. One day in the great hall I was writing to my mamá when someone asked what I was doing. I'm making bets with my mum, I had told them. After that I kind of gained this reputation. I was Erebos Bain, God of bets and gambling schemes.

I made a great deal of friends at Hogwarts. Strangely enough there was a whole lot of us with funny names like mine and we sort of formed our own posse. It was nice to have people to lean on, especially after our second year became a little bit of a mess. There was a fire in the great hall that year and being so young I could say for certain that I was a little put off by it. There was a lot of disturbing things happening but I sort of kept myself distanced from it and paid attention to my mates and my bets. The summer before fourth year the Death Eater's attacked Diagon Alley and it was a bit frightening to hear about. I've shopped that alley every year since my first and I was glad to be nowhere near the attack when it happened. Lots of my schoolmates lost family in it and it was hard coming back fourth year with all that bottled up anxiety over what would happen next.

Fourth year was the worst. From summer before to the summer after-- it was the literal worst. The Ministry was taken over which, at first, I thought wasn't an enormous deal. Wasn't it like taking over a post office or something? I didn't quite know what the Ministry truly did but then our headmaster changed and all sorts of curriculum changes started happening. My betting schemes were through the roof, though, let met tell you. I guess the best way to deal with your problems is to bet them away-- learned that from my dear old mamá I did! Apparently it carries to students as well and I really made a killing that year. This is my second year now since then and I am pleased to inform that my sister Adeline has come to Hogwarts this year with me. That means I don't have to worry so much about what mamá does for her money. My only hope is that we've got a home to go back to once the years through. For now I'll stick to worrying about my school bets. Oh, which reminds me, if you're interested I've got a bet going on how long the new Headmistress'll be around. The general pool is saying shorter term than the last one!"

family history
Christopher Bain was born in Liverpool to a muggle father and a witch mother. He was the middle child of the pair's children but one of the much older ones following a slew of halfsiblings after their divorce. His home life was not the greatest growing up; his father suffered from alcoholism which plauged his family for quite some time until Christopher's mother decided it was enough and asked him for a separation. She then took her three children from the home and left him alone. He didn't want much to do with the lot of them until he met his second wife who tried to get the man clean from his addiction to alcohol and back into a suitable roll as father. From there he weaved in an out of his children's lives as he went through his phases of sobriety. He fathered two additional children with his new wife who eventually did the same as his last and left him. After that he fell completely off his wagon and never got back on it again. He has no contact with any of his children or ex-wives. Christopher's father never got to see him off to Hogwarts but he was told by his mother that he had been sorted into the same house his father had once been in: Gryffindor. After graduation Chris began working as a floo care specialist and unfortunately picked up the drinking habit he had hated to see so much in his father.

Yolanda Fernández hails from Valencia, Spain. She was born to a rather large family but was the only one who ever moved out of country. She, as well as her many siblings, attended Beauxbaton's school where she was sorted into Prêtresse. Yolanda comes from two halfblooded parents but she always wished she could have been born a Veela instead. She was always quite envious of a certain family of Patial-Veela's that lived near her and who went to school with her. She wanted blonde locks of hair like they had and to be as beautiful as them. Yolanda became obsessed with the idea of being able to make herself and others just as pretty as any of those who had Veela blood. After graduation she tried to make her path in cosmetology and hairdressing but her family didn't approve of her choices. They tried to force her into a career and life she didn't want and so she fled. Yolanda moved to Belgium for a short period of time and then decided to move even further still by going to the UK.

Chris and Yolanda met at Goshawk Technical College where she was getting her certification in cosmetology and Chris was becoming floo  maintenance certified. They both found jobs within their scope but neither of them ever made a great deal of money. It never mattered to them, though, and they enjoyed spending what little money they had over at the end of the month on frivolous things such as scratch off tickets and pints of beer. They were together two years before they fell pregnant with their first child. Before the boy's birth they rushed to get married and before she was even four months along the two had tied the knot. Once their son Erebos had arrived the two decided that they didn't want, nor could they afford, any more children. Six years later they had another oops and became pregnant with their daughter Adeline. It put a great deal of stress on the couple and they found their frivolous enjoyments were not coping mechanisms and both fell into separate addictions. In 2008 Chris' addiction cost him his life in a fatal car crash, leaving his wife and two children to go on without him.
