Dio isn't blind. Not even a little. He's always known his parents weren't as interested in him as they were in Amy and that it was all because of Uncle Leander's death that he was even here in the first place. Yet he doesn't resent his sister for it because she's the only one that really pays attention to him and gives him attention when his parents don't even try. So he has grown up as the product of his upbringing- the only person he really cares about is Amalthea because he doesn't see enough of his parents to really form a connection to them. He manipulates people to get what he wants because he's never been told not to before the uptight professors at Hogwarts, he terrorises some of the students because he enjoys it and he's never gotten into trouble for it because of Amy. He pays attention to the classes that interest him and he puts less work into the ones that don't - Professor Binns has to go before he finds a book that can kill ghosts. Because he will. He hates History of Magic that much.
Leda and Thorfinn only had him for an heir, and only together because of the work camps. It doesn't really bother him much anymore because at the end of the day, he's still here, and he has friends and ambitions for his life. He doesn't like nor hate the camps or his parents. He barely knows them and the camp is a depressing conversation to have with someone. Also pretty boring as it's not like he's ever gotten to go look at where they were and see what was done. No one tells him anything. He's just got to follow along with everything everyone is telling him to do - unless they're a mudblood lover - and then he can't be moaned at. An easy enough life. He's learned the way to get around people in order to get what he wants and he definitely isn't used to people telling him no.
Fortunately he has his two best friends, @maddie and Kamil Zabini, to also pay attention to him and to keep him company. He enjoys being around them as they share his interests, join him when he's out to get someone, and so he looks out for them too. If someone upsets Maddie, he gets them back tenfold. Someone annoys Kamil and suddenly their pillow is going to try to smother them when they try to sleep at night. Yet for all his sadistic tendencies, he's a chirpy teenager who is just enjoying life. Or at least as much as he can now since bloody Minister Lestrange got rid of Lord Flint and half the staff has been replaced with awful nice people who definitely don't like his "extracurricular activities" with the other students. At least the mudbloods are coming back. He was getting really bored.
He's worried about @shi though... this epidemic X disease got her and he isn't allowed to visit her and see how she is. What if she doesn't get her magic back? What if she gets ill again?

Leander grew up very close to his older brother Thorfinn, in a home where pureblood propriety was of paramount importance. Power, both magical and political, were the main goals of any self respecting member of their family. Early on their learned what behaviour was expected of them and what was unacceptable. Thorfinn was eight years older than Leander and he set a very clear example for him when he joined the Death Eaters in the first war, despite his young age at the time. Leander was not old enough to join but he could clearly see their parents' pride.
At the end of the first war, Thorfinn was sent to Azkaban and fourteen year old Leander was left to figure out by himself what he wanted to do with his life. He got himself a job at the ministry and worked hard to pretend that he was different from his brother, achieving a comfortable spot in the Department of International Cooperation. He married Leda soon enough but they did not have children, as both were focussed on their careers. She was an Unspeakable.
Leda was the first child of the Selwyn family and she had a younger brother, Davos, that she -at their mother's early demise- taught to be strong and proud. Their family was an ancient one and thus they had to make sure to live up to it. Their father, ever a backbone lacking disappointment, had never had strong opinions on their blood or their purity but their mother had. Therefor, when she met Leander, a man who was strong and had the proper conviction, she did not hesitate to accept his proposal for marriage.
When the Dark Lord returned, they did not waste any time in aligning themselves with him, though Leda took more care to be subtle. Thorfinn escaped Azkaban and with him, Leander and Davos earned their places in slightly higher circles. The war came and went. Davos died and left Leda heartbroken, as she had practically raised him, and Leander and Thorfinn were both arrested. While she had been careful enough in her allegiance that, after some thorough questioning, she had been let go, that was not the case for her husband or brother-in-law.
Not wishing to leave her alone in such a vulnerable situation, Thorfinn pretended to have forced his brother to join the Dark Lord's ranks, at which he was sent to Azkaban and Leander was immediately released to the Work Program. Not much later, he and Leda had a daughter, who they named Amalthea and made sure to raise in the proper manner.
The work camp was a harsh environment and the wages were poor. While Leda could find a job in Knockturn Alley, Leander was forced to work for measly wages in a horrible environment. Years of such treatment wore him down eventually and one day he collapsed in the work camp. He did not get back up and when Thorfinn was finally released from prison he found his sister-in-law widowed and with a little girl.
Leda took comfort in Thorfinn, her only remaining family, and he helped her raise Amalthea. Many years later he offered her marriage and she, loving the echo of her husband inside him, accepted. They had Diodorus and thus managed to keep the Rowle family alive in the male line. Together, they are allied by convictions, shared past, and the loss they still feel for Leander.
