[attr="class","tweedles"]Working the counter wasn't something Dante did often, too busy with finances and preparing inventory to bother with the mundane parts, but he'd finished everything for the previous month and filed it away and now he was bored sitting at home. So he owled his usual manager and let them know they wouldn't need to come in because Dante would be doing it. First thing was to take inventory of what was out front so he could keep track of when he needed to restock from the back and what was almost out so he could make a list of what to prepare the next day. Business was good ever since the Epidemic swept through, with the majority of the population unable to use their magic. They were left to patronize the shops that made the things they needed, even simple household potions. In that regard, Dante was almost glad for the Epidemic, but he knew it must have been devastating for everyone to realize their magic was disappearing. Especially for those who used it for every day things. Dante himself wasn't too worried for himself if it ever decided to plague him, because he knew he could survive without his magic just fine--after his trip across Europe without using it, there wasn't much he was worried about. Sure, he'd have to sell the business, but he could use the money from the sale to get a fresh start.

The shelves were well stocked from the previous day--thanks to his usual manager, which Dante appreciated--so he moved to check the back to make sure they had enough to get through the time it would take to prepare more. The bell above the door jangled just as he was about to enter the back store room, and Dante turned to greet the newcomer with a cordial smile. "Welcome to Onagh's, can I help you find anything?"

[attr="class","nuggetwords"]She had magic, but her siblings didn’t— well, two of them didn’t. Dia had it, but Pet and Ward were magicless for the time being, a thing that was just a bit frustrating and completely upsetting. Dahlia would have happily killed someone and conducted a magic ritual for them to get it back, but Dia had been against it. Not against it, exactly; she had simply questioned Dahlia on how she was going to find two immune people that could go missing, and how, exactly, she planned on doing something like that. Since she didn’t know, it was rather moot. It was just a thought, an inkling that had stretched out when she considered how little they knew about this magicless existence. After all, none of the siblings had studied medicine. They hadn’t thought it was necessary. They were above normal sicknesses, weren’t they? They were better than that. If someone got a flu, or a cold, it was unheard of. They were healthy, they were young, and they drank more than enough alcohol to kill anything that was trying to live in their systems.

Apparently, that thought hadn’t translated completely. Since Ward and Pet were magicless, it was really up to Dahlia and Dia to provide hangover cures, pepper-up potions, and to keep the stock hefty just as normal. Since Dia liked Potions, it was usually her thing. Not that Dahlia didn’t; she could brew a mean hangover cure, when she needed to. But Dia had refused to do it that week, saying she was bored, and while Dahlia supported it whole-heartedly she didn’t realize that it meant that she was going to be the one brewing stuff. Well, that was on her, wasn’t it? She should have focused just a bit longer.

Dahlia wasn’t planning on being in Scotland. There were so many easier places to go. But she had had to drop Pet off at a client’s, and since she was in the area, she might as well stay, right? She knew that there was a closer apothecary, and then she could just hang around until Pet was supposed to be off of work. It was far easier than trying to figure out what to do until then. She didn’t want to exhaust herself, and she really hated running around like an idiot. Not that she was upset with her siblings for getting the flu. With a crinkle of her nose, Dahlia stepped into the shop. She looked around, and sighed. Nothing was where she was used to. This was why she always went to the same place. “I’m just browsing,” she said, smiling politely at the worker. Well, at least there was someone she could flirt with for the time being.

[attr="class","tweedles"]The thing is, not many people come into an apothecary just to browse. Everyone was looking for something, but Dante knew some people weren't sure what they were looking for, which was easiest explained as 'just browsing'. Which, yeah, that was kind of the definition of browsing, but he means that not many people are unsure of what they're looking for when they enter Onagh's. Especially not after the Epidemic, when most everyone knows what they need to keep their household running and they rarely branch out from that. Only potioneers and alchemists tend to buy with variety, but after so many people lost their magic, a majority of the potioneers and alchemists had no reason to try. So many business owners had to make do with the inventory they already had and hope it lasted long enough to find a cure, or they had to sell what they could before selling their business to someone who kept their magic. Dante knew he could play smart and buy up so many businesses for cheap, but he had little use for more work than he already had, and he wasn't short on income--not after the Epidemic. He'd rather let other budding entrepreneurs try their hands at it before he gave himself more paperwork to do just so he could fill his coffers with unnecessary funds he'd never spend. He'd purchased this business because he wasn't a fan of answering to a supervisor, and he'd known the money would be decent, but he hadn't enjoyed the prospect of all the paperwork involved in running it.

He hummed an affirmative sound and turned to the pile of paperwork he'd brought out to do in times like this, when customers were in but not ready to check out. None of it was pressing, but they were things that he could fill out early and sign later for turning in. "Just let me know if you need any help," he announced so she didn't think he was too busy to be bothered. Customer service was one of his strong suits, though he didn't use it much these days, and he enjoyed the chance to get back into it even for a day. "We did just get a fresh stock of alihotsy, and I believe our bubotuber pus is on sale," he added cheerfully. Alihotsy was mostly used to flavor various treats or for making laughing potions, but bubotuber pus was actually fairly commonly used--acne was a common ailment in the teens and young adults of the world, and bubotuber was a popular ingredient in treatments for such ailments.
