[attr="class","cbody"]It had been a complicated couple of months, and what had been the hardest part of all of this was trying to contend with the kids. She knew that this couldn’t make any sense at all to them—and not necessarily just because they were too young to understand. Viv was fully grown; she had moved out and everything. Olivette was still at Hogwarts, but she was going to be graduating before she knew it. Those two, in particular, were not necessarily kids anymore.
[break][break]
And so, they were not going to just accept that their parents had separated without any kind of explanation that made sense to them. She had known that from the beginning.
[break][break]
It had been part of the reason why she had struggled so much with figuring out what to do. It was why she had wondered if she should try to stay with Art just for the sake of the kids. She had thought about it, but those thoughts had been fleeting. Most of the time, she found that she could barely stand to look at him. There was just no way for her to act like everything was normal. She needed time. She had known it, and she had known that this was not something that they could necessarily fix.
[break][break]
This man had been the love of her life. He had been the one person that she could count on and trust with anything. The person who was supposed to love her in return, to protect her, to protect their family. But you couldn’t love someone and do what he had done. That wasn’t how love worked. Without caring about his family, he had unleashed something on the wizarding world that had taken her magic from her—that had taken Viv’s magic from her, and if he didn’t care about his wife not being able to fly anymore, if he didn’t care what he had taken from her, he should at least care enough about his daughter not to risk something like this.
[break][break]
But revenge had blinded him. That was all that this was. And she didn’t recognize him anymore. The man that she had married was not a man that would do something like this. The darker sides of him were brought out by his sister—she knew that too. But she couldn’t place all of the blame on Wednesday. That wasn’t fair. He had made his own choices. He was just as much to blame as his sister was.
[break][break]
Six months. She had been separated from her husband of nineteen years for six months, and that was hard to believe sometimes. Titania knew that it might be strange to be dating already. Was it? There was no way for her to know what the protocol was for separated women these days, but she didn’t think that there was anything wrong with some casual dates.
[break][break]
Her children would likely disagree, but she hadn’t… necessarily told them yet. She wasn’t sure when the right time to bring something like that up was, so she had decided to put it off for a while. So, as she headed up to the fifth floor of St. Mungo’s, Titania told herself to put dating—and specifically Marcus, out of her head while she visited with her daughter. One of the perks of Olivette having an internship was being able to pop into the hospital to see her.
[break][break]
When she made it up to the tearoom, though, she realized quickly that she had beaten here there, so she decided to hurry in to order them sandwiches and tea—Olivette’s breaks weren’t too horribly long, after all, there was no reason for her to wait in line for their food if Titania could just do it for them. Maybe five minutes later, she had managed to grab a free table and had set it up with their lunches, while she waited for her daughter to show up.

Olivette had been proud for the longest time of the family she had come from. She knew her parents had achieved a lot in their respective fields and for that, she was proud to follow in their footsteps, whichever way her path would wind. She still had time decide. Her parents would constantly remind her and She was sure she would make the right decision in time, it was just it was a matter of time. She had done reasonably well in her OWLs and was well into her sixth year now. It was no secret she had full plate with all the subjects she was taking this year. She had overloaded herself but it was because she had been an overachiever for a long time. Her younger brothers were not in Ravenclaw and so they had other stereotypes to follow if they wanted to. Vet didn’t necessarily want to follow the book-loving, witty traits that came from Ravenclaw but it so happened that was exactly what she was doing. She had by no means adapted herself to fit the stereotype.

She knew that despite all her family had achieved and also that she was on her way to achieving, her family was voting through something. Her parents had separated. Olivette wanting to know the backstory behind that had pushed for details but had been given very little in return, not that she had expected anything different from her mum. The woman had just been so secretive with details. Her mum probably thought she was too young to know why her parents had separated. The teenage girl was sick of being thought of as being to young too know these kinds of things. But despite all the horrific thing she had seen at school, she was still not able to find out why the two most important people in her life were no longer together.

Both her parents had been hit by this epidemic and she thought her father would have prioritised finding a cure as humanly possible since his wife and daughter had broth been hit but maybe it was more complicated than that. Olivetter didn’t know for sure but she had her suspicions. But she she kept them to herself for now. She was happy to focus on her school work and her internship, things her mother would likely prefer her to focus on. It was no secret she had a full plate this year with so many things going on but she thought she was doing well for herself to date. She hoped she was able to to keep that up.

With the Valentine’s dance coming up she had wondered if she was right to bring that up with her mum as they met today for lunch. Her mum was going through something and Vet didnt’ want to be selfish if she was ask her mum about how she should approach this dance. She had no idea who her date was going to be. What if she didn’t end up with a date? It was just too stressful for the the teenage girl to think about. She knew she couldn’t get away with just sitting in her dorm room the whole night. She had never really had a boyfriend before. While she had had her first kiss with Dina, she couldn't make a move on him, he was her best friend even if she did think he was gorgeous.

The witch smiled at the patient she had been helping with before excusing herself from the nurse that was supervising and going to clean up before she headed upstairs to meet her mum. She tucked her hair behind her ears as she entered the tea room and looked around. Seeing her mum she rushed over and hugged the redhead. ”Hey mum!” She did miss her mum a lot during the school term so being able to see her a few times while she was at her internship was a great bonus. Olivette let go and looked around a the food and then back to her mum before sitting down. ”I’ve been looking forward to seeing you” she stated happily.

[attr="class","cbody"]It was of little surprise to her that both of her daughters had taken after their father and had gone into healing. Vivien was already in her training to be a healer, and Vet had gotten an internship to be a nurse. All at the same hospital as their father, which she was proud of. She loved that they wanted to help people. They adored their father, going into his profession was proof of that in her mind, and that only made this more difficult.
[break][break]
Titania knew that she couldn’t tell Olivette the truth. As much as her daughter wanted to think that she was grown, she was still a child. She was too young to hear that her father had unleashed an epidemic that had taken away magic from innocent people—from her sister, from her mother, but also from thousands of other people that hadn’t done anything to deserve it. There was no way to tell a daughter something like that about her father. Since she hadn’t gotten sick, Titania didn’t feel guilty keeping that from her, at least. If there was anyone that truly deserved to know, it was Vivien. She had gotten sick too. If she was old enough to be impacted by the virus, she was old enough to know that it was her father that had engineered it.
[break][break]
Or at least, that was what she thought some days. Other days, she thought her daughter was still too young to hear something like that. Honestly, it wasn’t anything about age. They could be forty years old, and she still wouldn’t want their impression of their father, their hero, ruined. Stomped into the dirt, along with everything else that they thought they’d known about the man that had raised him.
[break][break]
He did still love them very much, after all. Titania knew that he did. But if she told them the truth about what he had done, she would ruin that relationship. She didn’t want to do that. They idolized him, they loved him, and she did not want to sever those ties. It wasn’t fair for her to do that.
[break][break]
Instead, she was keeping her reasons to herself. She knew it had to be especially confusing to Olivette. When she had left for Hogwarts on the first of September, everything had been fine. It was after she had gone that everything had fallen apart. She’d been away for the entirety of their illnesses, not there while they were sick, and not there when she kicked Art out of the house. By the time she had come home for Christmas, he’d been out of the house for months. And there had been very little explanation given. She didn’t know what to say.
[break][break]
Maybe, eventually, she would have answers. But anything that she could tell them would be lies. The fact of the matter was, the Artaxerxes that had released this epidemic was not the man that she had married. She didn’t recognize him anymore. But she couldn’t even say anything like that to her eldest daughters either. That wouldn’t offer them any answers or reassurance. Today wasn’t the day for those answers anyway. It was a day where she loved her daughter’s internship most of all, because it meant they could grab lunch and all she had to do was show up to the hospital.
[break][break]
And hope that she didn’t run into her husband. Of course.
[break][break]
“Hi, my darling girl,” she smiled, before hugging her back. “I’ve been looking forward to it too. I hope you don’t mind turkey sandwiches and tea. I figured I’d save you from waiting in line.” She didn’t think she should waste a second of her lunch break waiting for food. Making sure that she was eating enough and not overworking herself was important, after all, and the only time that she could really make sure that she was eating right was when she visited for lunch. “How has your day been so far? Learning anything interesting?” She was sure that every day working at a hospital was exciting—she’d learned that first from Art, and then from Vivien… and now Vet. She wondered if the twins would find themselves in medicine too, or if someone would follow in her footsteps and end up playing Quidditch.

Despite being a teenager and wanting her independence as most people her age did, Olivette was still close to her parents as can be. It was why she had an internship as well as having an internship. Yes, it left a lot on her plate but she thought she was doing well so far when it came to balancing her time and making sure her school work didn't suffer from everything else she did. But she was a Ravenclaw and she prided herself on doing well in her school work. The witch knew it came first and she was not going to forget about it. She wanted to prove to her parents most of all that she was was smart and she could do anything she put her mind to. Even if they were separated, she felt like they ought to know what was going with her. She was looking forward to seeing her mum today. The only other chances she had were when she had a Hogsmeade Weekend.

Vet recalled her first weekend and how happy she had been to see her parents during the school term. It had been something impossible during her first and second year. But with her internship, she got to see them even more and she was very happy to get the opportunity. Now that Vivien was out of school she looked forward to spending time with her sister too. She had been closer with her when she had been at Hogwarts. But Olivette knew that when she was out of school, she was going to be focusing on her studies and going out partying and may not have the same amount of time for her. She didn’t mind that, it meant she was able to spend more time with Dima and her other friends. It was important that she establish strong relationships while she was still at school. Before long they would be out of Hogwarts and other things would come up that would inhibit their opportunity to spend time together.

But she knew it was not worth thinking that far ahead in the future. She knew now more than ever before that the unexpected always arose. Her parents had been the closest married couple she had ever seen and to have them separate without any reason coming from either of them was very confusing. She had questioned her mum about it over summer but she had not told her anything. She knew her mum thought she was too young to know what had happened but she felt like she needed an explanation. After all, she wasn’t her youngest sibling, she could handle more than her mum probably thought.

Olivette knew her mum was probably keeping all the details from for some reason but that wouldn’t stop her from asking her mum for the real story. Maybe she wouldn’t do it while they caught up today, they were going to be in public and if the reason was too sensitive, the wrong people could hear it. Olivette wanted to trust her mum that everything was going to be okay where her parents were concerned but she couldn’t shake the feeling fo being kept out of the loop. Her parents were both sick as was her older sister, she couldn’t help them where that was concerned but she could at least help them where the separation was concerned if only she knew why they had separated.

It really was so good to see her mum again, she had missed her and she wasn’t about to stop hugging her, no matter how old she got. ”No, I really don’t mind having turkey sandwiches and tea” she smiled back from where she sat. She was starving after all and she was happy to eat anything that was placed in front of her. It is really interesting mum! I’m learning, of course, to deal with all kinds of patients from observing the other nurses here and how they do it! I’m going to be learning how the take a blood sample next week!” she smiled back as she replied to her mum, bouncing a little in her seat.

[attr="class","cbody"]She had always been exceptionally proud of her children. Exceptionally proud of her entire family, actually. Titania knew they had their fair share of complications, as all families did. As close as she was to her own brother, Owain, and even her sister-in-law, she knew that Art had never been close to his family apart from Wendy. There had always been too much bad blood, too many complications. They did not see his side of the family all that much because of it. It wasn’t that they had cut them off entirely. There had been more than a few dinners in their time, all of which were more complicated than the last.
[break][break]
None had been as bad as the dinner the night the Ministry had been taken over. Art had known that his family was going to be in fine form that night. They had all been invited to dinner—well, she and Art had anyway, since the kids had been at school. But he hadn’t even wanted her to go. He had wanted her to stay home with Zemfi, had wanted her far away from what he had been certain would be a bad night.
[break][break]
Though she knew that he was just trying to protect him, she had not been willing to let him walk into that without her support. It had resulted in quite the fight, with her trying to convince him that she should come and him trying to convince her to stay home. In the end, she had relented, and he had gone by himself. Titania did not know the full details of what had happened that night, but she knew that Art had been different when he had returned. It had been around that time that he and Wendy had gotten in deeper and deeper, always up to something behind closed doors. It had worried her and apparently, that had been for a good reason.
[break][break]
Now, she was just trying to figure out how to handle officially being separated from her husband, all the while worrying about what Art and Wendy were even capable of now. She did not think that her husband was going to harm her—that was something she was sure of. But she didn’t know what Wendy would think about their separation and if she would think that they were at risk of exposure if she decided to tell someone. Maybe it was overly paranoid for her to even think like that, but she found it on her mind anyway. There was no telling what that woman would be. She had been her sister-in-law for years, they’d gotten along for most of that time but now… well, everything was different now.
[break][break]
If she could keep her children away from Wendy entirely, she would. She knew that she couldn’t keep them from their father, and she would never try to. Not when she knew how much they adored him. But she could keep them away from Wendy if possible, and she thought that was something she needed to do. At the time, she was probably the person that Titania trusted least in the world. It was difficult to bring that up to her children, so she knew that she’d have to try to insert it into conversations as casually as she possibly could, if she brought it up at all. If Vet didn’t have her internship, she knew that she wouldn’t have to worry about her at all until the holidays. But the internship had her in London plenty, so who knew if Wendy had stopped by recently? It was definitely possible.
[break][break]
“Good, I’m glad to hear it,” she said, as she picked up her own tea to take a sip. Titania figured saving her daughter time in line by picking up their food first was just the easiest choice to make by far. Her break wasn’t long enough for her to waste time waiting in line. “Well, that sounds very interesting. And how are your classes?”

Working in a hospital brought a number of challenges. Vet and her siblings had heard about them many times over from their father. But she was slowly experiencing or witnessing them. One which she felt closely was the problem of exhaustion. She didn’t know how the nurses and healers did it day after day. It made her see them in a whole new light. She already held them in such high esteem but to see them push on and work through any tiredness they may feel was something else. For her it was little different because it came back to being a balancing act for her. After she would finish a shift, she would come back to the castle and finish up homework or study.

Vet wondered how her father had done it for so many years and on top of that, he was now battling an illness, one that affected him too. She knew he had worked hard for a long time to get where he was today and had only high regard for that. Her mother had worked hard too. It was a shame that she had fallen sick also, as well as Viv. She knew that not everyone had caught the epidemic from all the healthy nurses and healers he worked with at St Mungo’s. THe young witch knew that puzzled so many people because with epidemics it was an unwritten given that everyone who came into with it would fall sick.

Maybe it was different in the magical world. It was all the unknown. Vet knew that it was best left to the experts. She had to believe that her father was working a cure. She wasn’t entirely sure though, the man no longer lived at home. There was only so much that she could find out from her mother for the reasoning behind that. Her mother wasn’t very forthcoming with details. But she supposed that she ought to be grateful that they hadn’t divorced yet, they had only separated. But she wondered if it would ever reach that. Vet didn’t know if her parents even spoke anymore. She hated it honestly. Her mother was protecting her as all mothers would protect their children but she felt she was old enough to know what was going on.

Her mother was obviously going to disagree with her and it broke Vet a little that her mum didn’t see that she was mature enough. Maybe she wasn’t of age just yet but she was nearly there only a few more months. Maybe she should ought to just accept defeat when it came to her finding out the full details behind her parent’s separation.

She had pondered over that while she had been working during the morning, knowing that her mum would be meeting her later. But she wanted to share all that she had learned with her mum. She wanted what everyone wanted, approval. She knew her mum may have wondered if any of her children would follow in her footsteps and go into Quidditch when they were older. Vet still had to make up her mind where that was concerned. There was still time for her.

”Oh mum, it’s terribly interesting, jusgyt evne oft watch, I don’t think they’d actually let me take a blood sample yet myself” Vet laughed a little as she took a bite of her sandwich and savoured the taste. She had’t realised how hungry she was until she had taken that bite. ”School is great, so busy. I just handed in an essay for Transfiguration, so hopefully I did well in that one.” she shrugged before tossing her hair over her shoulder. ”How’s Zemfi doing? I’ll write to her when probably next week”

[attr="class","cbody"]The separation from Art had been something that she’d had to think about. The main reason that she had even put it off until she’d been back to good health had been because of the kids. She had known that it would confuse them. She had known that it would upset them. That just wasn’t something that she wanted to do. The last thing that she ever wanted to do was hurt them, and she knew that they would not understand why their parents had gotten separated. There was just no reason to even think that they were at risk of that happening. It would have come out of nowhere, she knew that.
[break][break]
And for a brief time, she’d considered staying with him. She had considered not putting the kids through that, and just figuring out how to get through this with Art. Even if she couldn’t stand to look at him, even if she could not hardly be in the same room as him, it certainly crossed her mind that she should try just for the sake of the kids. She could put on a good face when they were around and ignore him the rest of the time. At least while the kids were home. They were at Hogwarts for much of the year, and that would help. She wouldn’t have to fake it all of the time.
[break][break]
But in the end, she just hadn’t been sure that she was able to do that. Being around him was too hard. She just couldn’t believe that he had done this. It was hard to be in the same room as him and not want to throw something at him and scream at him. But he had not deserved her anger. Titania knew that them fighting would inevitably lead to them making up. That was just how they worked. If she let the anger out, if she got mad at him, they would probably figure it out. They would work it out. And she didn’t think that he deserved that.
[break][break]
No, he was used to her fighting. He was used to her yelling at him, and the fights that they got into when they were both too stubborn to back down. What he was not used to was the silent treatment. He was not used to her giving him the cold shoulder. That, in her mind, should be telling enough. Enough for him to see that this was different than their past fights. That there was a chance that they were not going to get past this. And then, her symptoms had faded. Once she was back to good health, the silent treatment and the cold shoulder ended long enough for her to kick him out.
[break][break]
Titania had to deal with the ramifications of that. She had to deal with their children’s’ questions, and how upset they were. They still saw their father, but they lived with her. She didn’t even know where he was staying. She didn’t think that she wanted to know. The fact of the matter was, she had made her choices, and now she was doing her best to go about her life as normal. To show that normalcy to her children, and to make sure that they were okay too. It was the only thing that she could do, at this point.

Talking to Olivette about what she was learning was good. She thought that it was easier for their children when they were at school. They had other things to do, distractions to keep them occupied and not thinking about what was happening at home. “Oh, I’m sure they will soon. Just you wait.” She didn’t know just when that would happen, but she had to imagine that it would happen eventually. If she kept up with it and worked hard, anyway. “Do you think you did? I always found Transfiguration hard.” She had done well enough at it, but there was no denying that it was a tricky subject at times. It was definitely a very precise subject. “She’s doing good. Lonely with all of you gone, I think. But sometimes I think she likes having the run of the house.” It depended on the day, honestly. Sometimes, it seemed like she was in an unshakable mood. Other days, she was running around with a tiara and tutu on acting like she owned the place.

With her parents separating, Vet hadn’t really thought about what to think about it. It had come out of nowhere really and she knew there had to be a good reason behind it even if her mother didn’t feel like she needed to know. She understood her mother was protecting her but she would soon be an adult in the magical world and that had to count for something. Maybe not with her mum where this was concerned. She hoped that whatever it was, they could resolve it. She knew that if it went to a divorce there would be custody hearings and those sorts of conversations. She honestly wasn’t ready for that. It would be very messy and the youngest Zemfi wouldn’t understand what was going on and it wouldn’t be fair on her to spend her time between both their parents. But Vet really hoped it didn’t go as far as the separation. Lots of couples get back together after some time apart and she hoped that her parents were among those.

Vet wondered how her mum was really getting on without her dad at home. She no longer had magic and their house wasn’t exactly small, not with five children. She knew it would be hard for the woman and she wondered if her mum was lonely. Sure, she had her friends but Vet had rarely seen her without her dad. If they were apart, one of them would be at work but this was different obviously. Vet saw him here at the hospital obviously. She hadn’t seen him here today so her mum was worried about seeing him today while she was visiting, she would probably not run into him. At least if they did run into each other, Vet would be able to see how they interacted. She would likely report that back to Viv when she saw her older sister next or the very least, Owl her about it.

Each time Vet came here for her internship she wondered how her supervisors felt about her work here. She had come here knowing it would be hard and she would face a number of challenges but she was going to face them. Vet played Quidditch, a sport that came with it’s own list of dangers but she was careful there just as she was here at St Mungo’s.

The witch seemed to balance her time well and she was proud of herself for doing that. She had so many activities going on that she had carefully plan her day. But she always made sure to complete her homework and get at least some number of hours of sleep. The number varied from night to night. Her mum wouldn’t be happy to hear that, so she made sure to keep that to herself. She didn’t need to be told of by her mum in the middle of the hospital tea room. She was known here thanks to her father working here and having her mum get upset would likely spread rumours around the place and then get back to her dad who would also get upset with her. But she knew she could get upset with him in return for not being honest with her about was going on with him and her mum.

Vet was looking forward to seeing her mum today, she had always encouraged her in whatever she pursued. She knew that she was making the effort by coming to the hospital today, there was a chance she could see her father. But Vet wasn’t sure if the man was even working today. ”I hope so, but I’ll be so nervous” The girl admitted. She tolerated needles but administering them to someone else would be a different experience.

”I want to believe I will do well, because I tried my hardest with that essay, I know I’m just a sixth year but I feel like they are already preparing us for our NEWTs” Vet was already thinking about those exams and she hoped her mum would calm her fears. ”She must love running amuck through the house” She chuckled before she took another bite. Her little sister was great always full of energy and she loved spending time with her and looked forward to seeing her soon.
