general appearance
Temperance is unaware of her beauty, finding many of her features too pronounced, specifically her dimpled chin, jawline, and heavy eyebrows. She believes her chin and jaw give the illusion of masculinity to her face, so she takes care with her make-up, hair-styling, and clothing choices to accentuate her femininity. A true middle child, Tempe believes herself invisible. She does not expect to be noticed, but if she is, she will assume it is for her eyes. The bright blue orbs are her favorite feature. She rarely applies heavy make-up, but always accentuates them.

skills
AIR 𝄞 While Temperance does possess an elemental mastery like her matka, she is not made of fire, but born of air. Out of all the elements, air is the most appropriate for Temperance. Like her, it can be tempestuous or still. It can be as gentle as a soft sigh or as powerful as the mightiest tornado. It reflects the duality of her nature. Like Tempe, air can be thought of as invisible, but is felt. It is necessary, even as it is not as flashy or attention seeking. Sound is a manifestation of this element. Her elemental mastery carries over into the witch being a musical prodigy. Though she has chosen not to flaunt the mastery through manipulation of woodwind instruments publicly, she does have the ability to accompany her bass with the pan flute while composing.

GRACEFUL 𝄞 Useful in dance and marital arts, Tempe is as graceful as her eldest sister and twin. She favors fighting more than dancing, as she avoids most situations where she would be directly in competition against her twin.

LANGUAGE 𝄞 The natural way with words, written and spoken, was inherited from her mother---but it is a skill that Temperance has cultivated. She prides herself on being eloquent and multi-lingual. She considers Czech and English to be her first languages, but has also mastered Slovak and French. Duty to the nations her family rules is a defining characteristic for her actions, decisions, and opinions.

MUSIC 𝄞 A true prodigy, Temperance is hard pressed to find a stringed instrument that she cannot master. She has chosen the double bass to focus her career and education around, loving the deep, rich, mournful notes she is able to pull from the monstrous instrument. She is as skilled as Constance on the piano--and obviously, her bass mastery carries over well to the cello.

ORGANIZATION 𝄞 A place for everything, and everything in its place. Anička might be her matka, but their working relationship is one that flourishes because the editor for any magazine would be hard pressed to find anyone so organized or well-put-together as Tempe to serve as their assistant.

POLITICALLY SAVVY 𝄞 Temperance is a Wentzell just as much as she is a Mountbatten. She strives to make many friends and to be as charming and seemingly trustworthy as her mother. Anička's ability to draw secrets from others with grace and warmth is something Temperance has striven to replicate.

TEMPERANCE 𝄞 The witch is adept at maintaining restraint and moderation. She concerns herself with public perception and propriety. A virgin, she does not take risks sexually that might result in a situation she would much prefer to avoid.
weaknesses
ANNOYANCES 𝄢 Several of the Mountbattens delight in annoying one another. She hates it. Her temper and patience are short. While she is not going to set fire to the house, she will not easily forgive or forget a slight. It is not always easy to discern when you have pushed Temperance too far as she bottles up her annoyance and frustration, but the cold and short answers she will give you will eventually clue you in that you've wronged her and she has no patience for your shit.

EMOTIONAL CONNECTIONS 𝄢 Temperance does not excel at forging deep and meaningful connections to other people. This was worsened by the loss of her father. It is furthered by the fact that s
he inherently distrusts others. She expects her impossible to ignore twin to upstage her given half the chance, so she does not actively try to make a consequential connection to those who come into their lives. She is close with Philip and Eleánora. That is good enough for her. Though, it is worth noting that she opens herself up through her music.

FAMILY 𝄢 There is nothing that matters more, nothing more important. Temperance will always sacrifice her wants and needs to put those of her kin first. She is one of the most selfless of Anička's children. She diverges from many of her kin in that she really does not like children or babies. She has very little to do with her mother's new little ones. They are not of any interest to her--and they are not truly her siblings, not in the way that those near her age are.

MIDDLE CHILD 𝄢 Even before she was literally the middle child, Temperance felt overlooked. Theadora was their father's favorite. Eleánora always seemed to be favored by their mother---and of course, Philip was the son. Even Constance had a way of overshadowing her. This has resulted in bouts of low self-esteem, jealousy, and recurring feelings of inadequacy.

OVERCOMMITS 𝄢 Temperance does not live up to her name in her tendencies to obligating her time. This was true at Hogwarts, and has continued through to adulthood. She takes after Eleánora in this way.

hobbies/interests
ART ♫ Creativity is a very core trait for Temperance. She paints and sculpts in her free time, limited though as it might be. The witch has also been known to take on the occasional art restoration project.

COOKING ♪ Via charms, of course. Temperance is hopeless in the kitchen without her magic. This annoys her considerably at the present.

LEARNING ♫ Fortunate as she is to be from royalty, Temperance has little need to work to support herself. Thus, while she will make a career of classical performances, she intends to continue to seek to better herself through education for the entirety of her life. Presently, she is debating a tenure at Gráinneog to study Architecture or Locksley to study magical combat after she finishes her Masters of Fine Arts in Composition at Braithwaite. This decision is likely to be influenced by the state of her ability to perform magic in the Fall of 2020.

MAGICAL CREATURES
♪ It was not a mistake that Temperance was gifted sphinxes. With a life-long interest in mazioology, she is both fascinated by all forms of life and truly has a gift with animal handling.

MARTIAL ARTS ♫ Tempe enjoys Capoeira with Ella, but more heavily practices krav maga and aikido. Even if she cannot get Drahomír to spare with her.

MUSIC ♪ This is a hobby and a passion. Temperance loves classical music. She finds little as peaceful as sitting down with her bass or cello. Hours can easily be lost in play, particularly when composing new works.

TEA, SCOTCH, & WINE ♫ Particular about what she puts in her body, Temperance is a connoisseur of beverages, both alcoholic and otherwise. She imports rare and exotic teas, regularly experimenting with new blends and varietals. White wine is her preference, particularly a flowery sauvignon blanc or luxuriously buttery chardonnay. Scotch should be at least her age, if not older.

WIZARDING CHESS ♪ Temperance excels at finding patterns and taking advantage of mistakes played against her. She tends to avoid obvious moves and adopt strategies that result in open ended games where her creativity and ability to think ahead opens up multiple avenues to victory.

WRITING ♫ Temperance seeks to be a regular contributor to HOME (Housewife’s Official Magical Editorial). She, also, writes poetry, though it is not something she is inclined to share frequently.

character history
Fourth child of Anička and Andrew Mountbatten, Temperance came into the world just a bit after her twin: Constance. While the opinion may not be shared across the family or others who know them, Temperance feels this was a foreshadowing for the rest of their lives. Constance has a much more bold personality than her twin. Temperance has no shortage of opinions on this.

Though Temperance has no memory of this, when she and her twin were almost two, their father sent Anička and all the girls back to Prague to live with her father. This was for the safety and security of all. Anička was pregnant with Philip at the time and the second Wizarding War endangered the safety of the princesses. Temperance was a quiet and timid child, much more docile than her twin sister. As young as she was, she had no knowledge of the war, but she grew up with an unbending loyalty to her family and the people she loved.

They grew up in Mountbatten Hall, where they were taught to dance, and sing, and play instruments. Temperance found her musical skill in the double bass, a string instrument like her two older sestras. They were taught martial arts as well, enough to keep themselves safe. Temperance had a particular skill in this, and she was fiery at it, which surprised everyone considering how quiet and demure she was normally. She had always been the quiet one among them, but she really packed a punch when it came to martial arts. Matka was adamant about them learning, which was fine by Temperance. Anička also prevented Andrew from making the girls arranged marriages, which is something that Temperance is eternally grateful to her mother for.

The twins were little when Ares was released from Azkaban after the war, and they were young enough that they didn’t really recognize him. While Temperance didn't recognize him, but she grew to realize he was an important part of their family.
She does not hold the hostility towards him that her matka and sestras do. He is still family, despite his mistakes.

They started school in 2007, and while Constance went to Ravenclaw, she’s the only one that’s truly a Ravenclaw. That’s where Ella went too, of course, but only because she was Slytherin enough to talk the hat into putting her into Ravenclaw… Temperance, unlike her sestras, was placed into Slytherin. There was no debate with the Hat. There was no hestitation in her acceptance of the sorting. She did not feel the need to follow Ella or Connie up to Ravenclaw Tower. She knew the truth of her character and motivations would align her well to Slytherin.  Others were more questioning of the sorting---she was quiet and sweet...surely she wasn't truly a Slytherin? But she certainly was; purity, pride, and ambition ran through her veins, even if it was in more...muted ways.

In Hogwarts, Temperance took a particular interest in Music, Art, Potions, and Care of Magical Creatures, all courses she excelled at. She kept a sweet smile on her face and charmed her way through school. She participated in clubs--she ascended to positions of leadership. She sought to embody an exemplary princess. She was always more clever than book-smart--though her grades were always respectable. She did not get into trouble. She won't comment on whether that was because she was adept at avoiding getting caught, or if she was actually just that much of a good girl.

She welcomed graduation from Hogwarts. Her years there were not unpleasant, but Braithwaite was so much better. She loved it. Being surrounded by the most gifted musicians, dancers, and actors was a great pleasure. In hindsight, she really wishes she had gone to the Junior Braithwaite School for her sixth and seventh years of wixen schooling.

The fire that happened at Hogwarts happened during Philip's seventh year. Just the mention of it now still stirs the embers of her anger. She cannot stand that her brother was hurt. The bitterness over the attacking of purebloods and Durant's rule grew later that year when their father died. The horrors of the fire at the work camp haunted her dreams. The disappearance of her bratty, selfish twin only compounded the anxiety of the situation. The pain she felt, the bitterness and the anger, she packed it inside, burying it inside her--save for one glorious and very private tantrum. Repression is her typical approach to suffering and anger.

Temperance was a mess, but only on the inside. Quiet, demure, strong, resilient... She had to be all these things, especially for her Matka, who didn't know how to live without Otec. At first, Temperance didn't know how to either... She had lived so long thinking things would get better, and then he died... It wasn't until later on that she learned Otec wasn't the man she hoped he was. She grew even more resentful because she wasn't sure what was right anymore. She knew her family was, the ones she could trust. And then Matka killed Durant, and she told them all that they had to stay home and not leave the house that day. Eleánora and Philip enforced that instruction--Temperance had not fought them on it. She was obedient, she is still. It had been a confusing day, but Temperance knew things would become clearer. Durant was dead and he couldn't oppress her family any longer. Otec was dead, but things would get better.

Everything was okay, but not for long. Anička's brother Dominick died--for real this time... And then Ares married Aurora, and that was questionable. Focus was drawn from that when someone kidnapped Constance. Matka and Dimitri went to go get her back, but Dimitri got overbearing, and Ares sent him away to Poland. Things seemed even more confusing to Temperance then.... Weren't things supposed to get better? It felt like things were just getting crazier, but Temperance never said so. She never told anyone. She kept it inside, because that was where it belonged. Her own madness couldn't add to the chaos, but it was just becoming spiraling madness within her. She withdrew from most people, even her family a bit, and threw herself into her training and musical composition. Havoc was going on around her, and she would drown if she didn't give herself something to study or achieve.

And then Malcolm and Pippa became a part of their lives. Temperance could have done without that addition. But Anička needed a husband...and then came the second set of twins. Temperance did not broadcast her opinions of this marriage or the new children. She committed to doing everything she can to help her Matka, because she wants her to be happy more than anything in the world truly believing that Anička deserves it. Ella got married, so they have a brother-in-law. Anička and Malcolm married, as well. And these new marriages spun a new life for them all. They no longer lived in the same house… Constance left, too--going to throw herself at the new fiance since she was not 'good enough' for the former boyfriend's family. Temperance has opinions about her twin's choices, but it is not as if the other Mountbatten would actually ask for any advice.

The world has shifted and changed much during the years since her graduation from Hogwarts. Ares rose to Minister only to be unseated by Andromeda Lestrange. What does this new regime, new era mean for them? How can they protect themselves for the future? Are the guards and close ties to the Czech royal line the answer? Temperance has no shortage of questions and thoughts, but answers are fewer and less concrete than she would like for them to be. The desire to revenge her father, even knowing the truth about him, hasn't completely left her. He was still her father...even if he was a bad man. Reconciling what she knows of him and what she remembers is not always easy.

Music is easy, though. It makes sense. She finds and loses herself in it. In the orchestra, she is more than a princess or daughter. She is herself. She has a place. She flourishes. It has done so much for her confidence. The same is true for her work at HOME. She loves to contribute in meaningful ways. She loves the time she gets to spend with her Matka. She cares about the magazine and gives deeply of her time and herself to ensure each publication is a success.

Compliments of Tori:

The Czech state was formed in the late 9th century as the Duchy of Bohemia under the Great Moravian Empire. After the fall of the empire in 907, the center of power transferred from Moravia to Bohemia under the Přemyslid dynasty. In 1002, the duchy was formally recognized as part of the Holy Roman Empire, becoming the Kingdom of Bohemia in 1198 and reaching its greatest territorial extent in the 14th century. Besides Bohemia itself, the king of Bohemia ruled the lands of the Bohemian Crown, he had a vote in the election of the Holy Roman Emperor, and Prague was the imperial seat in periods between the 14th and 17th century. In the Hussite wars of the 15th century driven by the Protestant Bohemian Reformation, the kingdom faced economic embargoes and defeated five consecutive crusades proclaimed by the leaders of the Roman Catholic Church. What the Czech people failed to realize though, was that they continued to win, and hold off the Catholic Church, because their king was not just a king. He was a wizard. A pureblood wizard that had made sure that their country continued to survive.

Following the Battle of Mohács in 1526, the whole Crown of Bohemia was gradually integrated into the Habsburg Monarchy alongside the Archduchy of Austria and the Kingdom of Hungary. The Bohemian king’s only daughter, was married to the son of the the Kingdom of Hungary, and both dynasties worked together to hold the monarchy through the Protestant Bohemian Revolt (1618–20) against the Catholic Habsburgs, which led to the Thirty Years' War. After the Battle of the White Mountain, the Habsburgs consolidated their rule, eradicated Protestantism and reimposed Roman Catholicism, and also adopted a policy of gradual Germanization. Something that the wizarding rulers were most certainly opposed, but that they had trouble stopping from happening in the first place. With the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806, the Bohemian Kingdom became part of the Austrian Empire and the Czech language experienced a revival as a consequence of widespread romantic nationalism. In the 19th century, the Czech lands became the industrial powerhouse of the monarchy and were subsequently the core of the Republic of Czechoslovakia, which was formed in 1918 following the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire after World War I.

It was then that the monarchy started to break away from the government itself. There was a muggle war looming ever present on the horizon, and the pureblood, wizarding monarchy, was tired of trying to help them out of the situations that hey found themselves in. The monarchy faded away from the general spotlight, and eventually the muggles began to govern themselves. That didn’t stop the monarchy from existing however, and the magical and muggle governments were under two separate controls. The family presiding over the magical part of the government had gone by many names throughout the centuries, but by the time that the Soviet Union and the United States liberated the muggles from Germanic control in 1945, the magical portion of the country was being governed by the Wentzells. When the country of Czechoslovakia peacefully dissolved on the first of January 1993, the monarchy did not split. The king, Ondřej, refused to split the country, and so the magical government for the Czech Republic and Slovakia are one and the same.

The Wentzell family has had control of the wizarding monarchy for generations and they have made a point of keeping the main line pure. The ruling monarch is the eldest living child of the previous ruler, nondependent of age, or gender. If the children of the previous ruler have perished, or if there are no children to speak of, the monarchy passes to the previous rulers next eldest sibling, and their progeny. The monarch, and any subsequent heirs to the throne immediately give up their claim to the throne if they marry, or have children, with anyone of lesser blood. Should a member of the royal family lower themselves in such way, they do not lose their title, but they and their children are not eligible to inherit the throne. The monarch’s eldest child is immediately the heir to the throne upon birth, and the moment that any child is born into the royal family, the line of succession changes. The eldest daughter of the monarch is styled the Princess Royal, so long as there is no other Princess in possession of the title. All children, and grandchildren of the monarchy are styled Prince, and Princess.

Anicka's father, being the eldest of three siblings, was the rightful heir to the throne, and inherited it upon his own father's death. Thus resulting in his own children being born heirs to the throne. As it sits currently, with her elder brother Josef reigning now as king, Anicka is second in line to the throne behind her nephew, Sylvestr. Leaving her own children the subsequent heirs.
