wide open spaces
room to make her big mistakes
she knows the high stakes
She was proud of him. Merlin, she was proud of him. Jaxon had been working on this for a while now, and she knew that it was something that he believed in. A meeting with Beckett Graves was a step in the right direction. A step towards everything that he believed in and wanted to fight for. And she knew that he could do it. She knew that he had been spending plenty of time working for this, and she wanted him to succeed. She wanted it for him, and she wanted it for the no-maj born, and she wanted it for werewolves.
There were so many reasons that he needed to take this meeting and getting in to see Graves was just a start. She knew that nothing was going to happen overnight, but it was a start. It was a start towards safety measures, and equality, and everything else. Tess couldn’t say that she knew a whole lot about quidditch before she had started seeing Jaxon, but she had learned. She had made a point to learn. To try and ask intelligent enough questions that he didn’t think that she was dense, but that still let her learn. She wanted to learn.
She had wanted to learn what he loved, what he didn’t love. What was going to make him passionate, and animated. What he loved. And that was part of the reason for her trip to London this afternoon. She had had errands to run anyway, and a few things that she had needed to drop off at the apothecary. But her main mission had been to pick up Jaxon’s son. Getting to meet the little boy had been a big step for them, and she knew that, but she also knew how important to her it was to have a positive relationship with both him, and his mother.
The last thing that she wanted was for Aphrodite not to like her, and she hoped that the woman didn’t. She was important to Jaxon, and Tess had nothing but respect for that. They had a child together. That was a bond that she was going to avoid messing up at all costs. But she knew that he was in the Ministry, and it was just as easy for her to pick him up if that was okay with the both of them. Stepping on toes was not her intention, but she had offered to help out. It was easier than Affy having to go all the way up to the cabin when she was in the city and going up there anyway.
With the season getting set to start again, she knew that things were always going to be prioritized, and she wanted them to go well. She wanted to help out, if they needed it. Having a relationship with his son was important but making sure that Affy was okay with that was important to her as well. She had been raised in a matriarchal society. She knew how important a mother’s connection with their child was, and respect was a crucial part of her life.
In everything that she did, not just this. She thought that she would always consider respect paramount. It was the only thing that she could count on, that she was going to be respectful, and let other people act how they would. But she didn’t think that it was going to change her. Not if she could help it. Everything that she preached to her pack reflected in her own actions. Peace. And sincerity. And respect. They were all things that she hoped to bestow on all of them.
Knocking on the door to the loft apartment, she waited patiently for the door to open. The woman was here, she knew that she was expecting her, but that didn’t mean that Tess wasn’t the slightest bit nervous. She liked Renzo, and she liked Affy, but she hadn’t done anything like this before. And Jax would be home sooner rather than later, but he hadn’t known how long his meeting was going to go, and rather than leave Affy waiting on him, this had been an acceptable solution. Tugging lightly at the end of her braid, Tess flipped her long hair over her shoulder as the door opened in front of her, and she offered a warm smile to the blonde. “Hey.”
