If Memory Serves,
don't i know you?
Now that things were going back to normal, Lyra had decided it was time to treat herself a little. She’d hardly been out since the registration had lifted, she could count on one hand how many times she strayed from her pack. She knew that it was safe, but just like when she’d been bitten, the wolf was working on baby steps to be able to go out without fear. She was getting there, slowly but going to a place surrounded my large numbers of witches and wizards, some of which had lost their magic so were practically harmless to her, especially considering that she still had her magic and a slightly new wave of confidence due to the wolf blood running through her veins, even more so now that the full moon was growing closer; was a little different to going out to a much bigger city where if anything happened, people wouldn’t be likely to notice.

Her plan for the day had been a simple one, now that she had a job that paid her enough, a roof over her head and a pack that looked after each other. Lyra had decided it was safe to dip into the savings she’d heard from her year working as a waitress in France. She didn’t have much, but the fact she’d been living in a cave and had been getting rations brought to her, meant that she’d been able to save up what little money she did have for a rainy day, but now that she was getting a guaranteed income Lyra had decided it was time to spend a little. One of the first things she’d done had been to buy clothes to just add a little extra to her wardrobe and it had been fun, she’d not really been able to do something as simple as clothes shop for so long that she’d admit she’d gone a little crazy with her spending – not too much – but enough that she had actively had to restrain herself.

That hadn’t lasted long though as the blonde now found herself in a pet shop. She had treated herself and now it was Smokey’s turn. Lyra had hated that she’d not been able to buy Smokey toys and treats for so long, admittedly once they’d moved onto Tessa’s property he had found plenty of ways to entertain himself from diving in hay bales, to running around, to playing with the horse toys or pestering other people. She knew most of them didn’t mind too much after all her pack were surrounded by animals, but that didn’t stop Lyra feeling embarrassed or awkward if he got in their way when he was feeling particularly playful. He was an active creature and Lyra knew that meant he needed a lot of enrichment, so far she’d filled a basket full of all kinds of dog toys and treats, there was even a cat toy or two thrown into everything as well. Smokey still went hunting himself, but she was hoping that in buying him hunting toys, she could keep him safe in the house whenever there was a full moon. There’d been a couple of times that she’d come back the morning after wolfing out to find that the fox had slipped out of the house and wolves were feral, she didn’t want to risk any harm coming to him.

Lyra wanted to buy Tessa a small gift as well but she had a feeling that the older woman would probably scold her for spending what little money she had on her, it seemed like a mum thing to do and since coming back to England, that’s exactly the way Lyra had started to view Tessa – like a mother. Of course, she couldn’t be certain, she wasn’t a mind reader. Maybe she could ask Zero, but for now, she was just going to pay for what she had and head home. Lyra had the door behind her open and the witch looked over her shoulder curiously when a girl with red hair seemed to be struggling to come into the shop with a pram. She pulled her bag of goodies off the counting and cocked her head to the side ever so slightly; she recognised the girls face. They’d been at school together, but she was almost certain that the witch was much younger than her. The name was escaping her right now though. Lyra crossed the shop floor and pulled the door open for the girl, stepping back so she could get in and smiling tenderly at the sleeping infant as she passed before raising her gaze back to the girl, if Lyra’s memory was serving her correctly the girl should still be in school, but here she was with a baby. Lyra wasn’t going to pass judgement, of course, she was just surprised, especially if she was remembering bits about the witch correctly. She’d been smart, studious at Hogwarts and the blonde hoped that if it was the same person she was thinking of, she was still looking after herself not just the baby – assuming, of course, that it was her baby.

It was annoying Lyra that she couldn’t remember the red heads name, but if it was the right person surely it wouldn’t be awful if she struck up conversation? If it wasn’t and she was mistaken, well she’d be embarrassed later. “Your little one is lovely.” Lyra said slowly, if it wasn’t hers then Lyra could just add it to the list of things to kick herself over later, but if it was? Well, it was the perfect opening, even if it was just until she remembered her name. “How old is she?”
