Character History:
Draco was born on June 5th, 1980 to Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. He is their only child and the only heir to the Malfoy name. Being part of a wealthy pureblood family would open many doors from Draco in the future and shut quite a few as well. His childhood was happy with little to no incident. He was only an infant when trials for the first war happened so he was spared those memories. He was like most kids of similar families, only getting the best that money could buy, though not emotionally nurtured as much as he probably needed. That’s not to say his mother didn’t try. It was just par the course for their family, and was never intentionally done to hurt anyone emotionally or otherwise, not that it really even mattered to Draco as that was all he had ever known.

Pureblood supremacy was one thing Draco had been taught about since before he could remember. Purebloods were better than everyone else, muggleborns were disgusting abominations that needed to be wiped out, and that Death Eaters would eventually rise up again. While he was taught all of this he was also taught to keep his mouth shut about such beliefs as it could reflect poorly on his father who had narrowly missed being sent to Azkaban during the first war. While Draco attended Hogwarts his father had wanted to send him to Durmstrang seeing as he was close to the Headmaster at the time being a Death Eater himself. Draco’s mother did not want Draco to go to school so far away from them so he was sent off to Hogwarts.

His first day of school had set the mood for the whole of his schooling as he had offered his friendship to Harry Potter only to be rejected. His father had believed that Harry could quite possibly become a great dark wizard though that would not be the case. That first year he had attempted to break Harry as well as made others well aware of his views of ‘mudbloods’ and anyone who associated with them. His bigoted views, his blood status, as well as being sorted into Slytherin had the student body thinking that Draco could possibly be the heir of Slytherin during his second year of school. He made no real move to silence the whispers though grew aggravated that others seemed to think Harry Potter was the actual heir. It was Draco’s father who had orchestrated a way to get the chamber though Draco was never told anything but to lay low that year.

During Draco’s third year Sirius Black had escaped Azkaban which led to the Minister deciding to send Dementors around the grounds in an effort to catch him. Draco found great amusement in this though he was actually scared of the creatures. He spent every opportunity available to torture Harry about his outward fear of them. This was also the year Draco was attacked by a hippogriff during Care of Magical Creatures while taunting the creature. He tried to use this to get the professor at the time Rubeus Hagrid fired and the animal executed. Other than that the year was over without any real incident. His fourth year brought a bit more action to him personally. While he wasn’t involved directly in the Triwizard Tournament, it was the end of that year that things would start to escalate quickly with Draco and his family. Lord Voldemort had returned and a classmate killed, though Draco made a joke of the whole situation not realizing just how upset the Dark Lord was with his family.

In 1995, during his fifth Dumbledore was ousted while the High Inquisitor, Dolores Umbridge, took his place as headmistress. Draco joined Umbridge’s Inquisitorial Squad during this time, doing the woman’s bidding and busting Harry along with Dumbledore’s Army. During a confrontation in Unbridge’s office Harry and a few other D.A. members stunned and hexed Draco and his cronies before escaping to the Department of Mysteries. Draco’s father participated in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries as a Death Eater, and was soon locked up in Azkaban for the crime. Draco was infuriated blaming the whole thing on Harry Potter, vowing to make him pay for what he did.

The summer before his sixth year Draco officially joined the ranks of a Death Eater as a replacement for his father. His aunt, Bellatrix Lestrange, also taught him occlumency. The Dark Lord was furious that Draco’s father had failed him during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, and gave Draco the impossible task of killing Dumbledore. Draco had worked night and day on a broken vanishing cabinet that linked the room of requirement to Borgin and Burkes. It would be the passage that several months later would aid Death Eaters in getting into the school. It was during this time that he began to change into someone completely different. He no longer had any interest in quidditch, his school marks began to decline quickly, and he lived in a near constant state of fear. He didn’t know that Voldemort had set Draco up to fail in his mission to kill Dumbledore as he had never expected Draco to deliver on it and be killed in the process as a way to punish his father for his blunder. As predicted Draco was unable to kill Dumbledore, not because he was stopped, but because he just couldn’t bring himself to do it. Instead Severus stepped in to kill Dumbledore and they all fled the school. Draco was now an accomplice to the murder of the Headmaster at the Battle of the Astronomy Tower, and took refuge with the Dark Lord unable to return to the castle.

Over the summer Draco was forced into doing Death Eater activities, watching innocent people be murdered, and being ordered to torture others himself. His family was no longer in great standing with the Dark Lord as they had once been regardless of what they did to try to get back into his good graces. He did return to Hogwarts in his Seventh year. During spring break of that year the Golden Trio were caught by snatchers and Draco forced to reveal if it was really them or not. He was hesitant but did do anyway. It was during the Battle of Hogwarts when Slytherins were told to leave the castle that Draco, Gregory Goyle, and Vincent Crabbe stayed behind. Draco hoped to regain some sort of respect for his family in the eyes of Lord Voldemort to stay and fight. It was his mother’s blatant lie to the Dark Lord about Harry’s death that had saved them all from a sentence to Azkaban as they had turned their backs on the Dark Lord shortly before the war came to a head.

The Malfoys were pardoned because of their final acts before Voldemort was killed. Draco had finally come to terms with how wrong the blood purity movement was and had even been friendly towards Harry though they were never close friends. He had been thankful for Harry and everyone else’s help to keep his family from going behind bars. Those few years after the trials Draco had met a muggleborn witch that he cared very deeply for. They had gone so far as to become engaged and planning a wedding. While his father was still a little stuck in his ways when it came to blood status he did approve eventually. This was not to last as in 2009 re-questioning of purebloods had started. While the Malfoys couldn’t be retried for their involvement with Death Eaters they were fined to broke. Draco had to sell his own home with his fiancé to pay fines as well. Soon after this his fiancé left him as it had turned out she was more interested in his name and money than him in general. This rekindled his hatred of muggleborns and has led him back down a darker avenue while his parents continue to try to live low.

Plots and Politics
Where does your character stand in the treatment of death eaters and their families? Draco obviously finds the treatment of purebloods and Death Eaters to be disgusting though he has no intention on resolving the problem peacefully.

How was your character and their family affected by the reign and death of Voldemort? Draco's family was greatly impacted during and after Voldemort's reign. His father had been imprisoned for working as a Death Eater and he himself had also joined the ranks at the age of 16 being forced to do horrendous things to innocent people. After the final war the family suffered severe financial and social loss at the hands of the new Minister of Magic.

Family
Parents: Lucius Malfoy (61), Narcissa Malfoy nee Black (60)
Siblings: none
Children: none

Family History:
Lucius and Narcissa were both raised by wealthy pureblood families that valued blood purity over just about anything else. They had both attended Hogwarts and were sorted into Slytherin. Narcissa’s family was very much into the Dark Arts as was Lucius’ though they kept this part of themselves reserved for those of the same mindset. The pair married shortly after Narcissa graduated from Hogwarts and lived a life of luxury at Malfoy Manner. While Lucius was very much involved in Death Eater activities and joined the organization himself, Narcissa never formally joined.

Draco was born a few months before the Dark Lord was defeated in the first war. Lucius had been spared by claiming to have been acting under a curse. He continued to work within the Ministry as a Board of Education Governor. The family maintained their comfortable life until Voldemort returned. Lucius rejoined the Death Eater ranks, ending up in Azkaban during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. The Dark Lord had taken up residence at Malfoy Manor and things were looking bleak for the family as their son was now caught in the mix. It was Narcissa’s blatant lie to Voldemort that had saved the entire family from Ministry backlash initially. After the re-questioning in 2009 the pair sold all of their possessions and have since been staying under the radar while their son has begun another rampage of sorts.
