Character History:
Helen Fawley was born to a prestigious pureblood family at the height of the war with the Death Eaters. Not to be deterred by the defeat of Voldemort, her family continued to uphold their views of pureblood superiority. Although many of them were imprisoned after the war, her mother and uncle were spared because they had slightly less involvement with the war. Helen was brought up by her mother and aunt, along with her older brother James.
When Helen was just nine years old, her mother, uncle, and all of her freed Death Eater relatives were sent to work in the camps. Helen and James were often questioned by the ministry, and lived in constant fear of their government. This fear only solidified the pureblood hierarchy teaching in the siblings, as they learned to fear everything but their family.
Upon arriving at Hogwarts, Helen was very prejudiced against the muggleborns and halfbloods, as she lived in constant fear of them. She tried to keep her head down and avoid conflict, yet was constantly beat up and cursed for being a pureblood from a Death Eater family.
Helen’s family was fined into poverty, so Helen was forced to live on the street with her family during the summers. Her mother worked at the camps to support them. When James was 15, he had to work at the camps too, leaving a 12 year old Helen alone on the streets. Her family was not able to afford a house at the meager wage, which left them suffering. Her family was left full of resentment, and joined up with Miles Brant to try to gain back some of their power above the people who were making them suffer.
When Helen was 15, James was murdered by muggleborn extremists for being a pureblood and a Death Eater. Helen herself was attacked, but managed to escape. Her mother tried to get back at the murderers and was killed in the resulting conflict. Helen was left all alone and forced to go to a work camp.
Helen began to be more involved with the Death Eaters, and began to take her anger out on passing muggleborns. When she was not at the work camps, she was at Death Eater meetings. The Trace on her wand was removed at 15, and Helen began to kill muggles and muggleborns along with the other Death Eaters.
At 17, Helen was constantly being questioned by the government for her involvement with the Death Eaters, and was forced into doing even harsher labor at the camps. At 18, she worked at the work camps for nearly 10 hours at a time with no break, and began to get involved with a plot to overthrow the government, manned by the Death Eaters. Helen became an extremist Death Eater, and finally began to live up to what was expected of her from society.

Plots and Politics
Where does your character stand in the treatment of death eaters and their families? Helen does not think that the treatment of Death Eaters and their families is right or moral.

How was your character and their family affected by the reign and death of Voldemort? Helen’s entire life was ruled by the aftermath of the reign and death of Voldemort. Her entire learnings and beliefs were spawned from Death Eater beliefs, and were heavily influenced by Voldemort’s reign. The fact that she suffered her entire life, along with her family, was caused entirely by the aftermath of Voldemort’s death. Everything that happened in her life was dictated by Voldemort’s rule and the hold his beliefs still held over society.

Family
Parents: Sullivan Fawley, Lyrae Burke
Siblings: James Fawley
Children: none
Partner: none
Other Relevant Family: Crucis Burke (uncle)
Family History:
Helen was descended from the Fawley family line on the paternal side of her family. The Fawley family was one of the sacred 28 pureblood families, and was very prestigious. Her father was Sullivan Fawley, who was a Hufflepuff in the late 1980’s and early 90’s. Sullivan did not have any siblings, but did have parents who were Death Eaters, both of which died in Azkaban before Helen’s birth. Sullivan was slightly less of a radical Death Eater than his family, but became mixed up with the Death Eaters when he married Lyrae Burke. Sullivan was involved in the Battle of Hogwarts, and was captured and sent to Azkaban by the aurors in the aftermath of the battle, when Helen was just one year old. Sullivan was set to be released from Azkaban in 2006, when many of them were released from prison, but was not released before Minister Durant took over. Sullivan was sent to life in Azkaban and subsequently died there like his parents.
Helen was also descended from the Burke family, another family from the sacred 28. The Burke family was notoriously anti-muggle, and had ties to other families that are deep-set in pureblood superiority, such as the Blacks, Flints, and Malfoys. The Burkes owned the shop Borgin and Burkes, which was taken from Helen’s mother after the war. Lyrae Burke was Helen’s mother, and was a very devout Death Eater. Lyrae was never sent to prison because she was never proven to be directly tied to the battles or tortures, although she was involved very often. Lyrae managed to escape a sentence in Azkaban, but did not escape the aftermath. She brought up her two children, James and Helen, with her brother Crucius. Together they taught the children ideals of pureblood superiority. In 2006, Lyrae was sent to work in the camps as a sentence for being a Death Eater and a pureblood. Her family was then fined into bankruptcy for her crimes, and they were forced to live on the streets because they could not afford a home on the meager wage Lyrae was offered. Her brother also helped support her and her two kids, but they could not afford a home in a society that robbed purebloods of everything, yet set higher prices on every possible thing to get back at them for centuries at the top of the metaphorical food chain. Lyrae became even more involved with the Death Eaters than she already was, going out on almost every raid and killing the muggles. After the death of her eldest child in a raid, Lyrae became quite careless when fighting the muggleborns and everyone else in society. She went after the people who had killed James in an act of revenge, but was killed in the attempt.
Lyrae Burke also had an elder brother, Crucius Burke. Crucius managed to evade arrest in the aftermath of Voldemort’s rule by changing his appearance and obtaining a new wand. He was able to pretend to be another pureblood who was not involved with the Death Eaters, and escaped any sort of sentence in Azkaban. Crucius moved in with his sister Lyrae to help her raise her children. In 2006, Crucius was also convicted of the crime of being a pureblood, and was forced to work at a camp alongside Lyrae. When they were robbed of all of their money and forced to sell everything, Crucius stayed with his sister, and together they helped support each other. Crucius was killed in a battle in 2008, a few years before his sister and nephew.
Helen’s had an elder brother, James. James was born in 1994, and was three years older than Helen. In school James was a Slytherin, and often advocated for pureblood superiority. He became friends with some of the other remaining pureblood children, most of which were also sorted into Slytherin. When James was 12, his family was fined into poverty, and he was often ridiculed for being homeless by the muggleborns. This caused him a lot of resentment, and when he was 14 he joined the Death Eaters. James began to spew the propaganda from the Death Eaters at Hogwarts, and even went as far as attacking other students. James became particularly more violent when he was 15, after being forced to go into the work camps during the summers. He became more active in the Death Eaters, and by the time he was 18 he was a very prevalent Death Eater, and was the equivalent of a Death Eater in Voldemort’s inner circle. James was murdered by friends of some of the halfbloods and muggleborns that he had killed at 18.

Roleplay Sample
Helen arrived at the work camp at five o’clock in the morning, despairing in the torture that she was about to be forced into. Another dreary day of back-breaking work, all the while she would be freezing from the sub-zero temperatures brought on by the winter months. She shivered in her coat as the snowflakes fell faster, blotting out the stars. She couldn’t see past three feet in front of her face; her fingers were already beginning to freeze. She entered the gate at the work camp, which was quickly slammed shut behind her, courtesy of the guards. She had no desire to come, but she knew that she would be tracked down if she did not show. Helen needed the money anyways; the winter was unkind to the homeless.
“Alright, you all are going to be shoveling the compound today.” The overseer for the camp shouted over the complaining of the other purebloods. Helen was actually a bit glad, as the shoveling would be slightly more productive than carrying around heavy objects like they did the previous day. She grudgingly took a shovel and dug it into the snow, knowing that the longer she waited, the heavier it would be.
The wind picked up, blowing through her coat and making it feel like parchment. The wind slammed into her, chilling her bones and throwing her off balance. Helen fell into the snow after a particularly strong gust,
“Stupid muggles and their awful tools and technology.” She muttered, her teeth chattering. She wished she could use her magic, she did not revel in the feeling of acting like a disgusting muggle. They had taken her wand on arrival, something that she griped about each and every day. She could not wait for her daily torture to be over, as there was a Death Eater meeting scheduled for later in the day. Helen knew that she would obliterate any muggles standing in her way after a horrid day like the one she was experiencing.
The moment that these thoughts flooded her brain, her large pile of snow blew back into the path that she was carving. She growled at the unfairness of it all, and went back to redoing the shoveling that she had just done.
By the end of her ten hour shift, Helen felt ready to fall over. Each moment of painstaking work filled her muscles with lead, her fingers with ice. She used the last of her energy to sprint out of the camp when the leader told them they could leave. She did not even care about her money, meager amount that it was. She grabbed her wand out of the guard’s hand, immediately casting a warming charm on herself. The snow had become wet and clumpy over the course of the day, making the work even more backbreaking. Helen shuffled back over to the corner of Diagon Alley where she kept her things, as she no longer had a home to live in.
Helen gasped as she saw the state of her makeshift shelter. Her objects were strewn on the snow covered street. Debris from what used to be her shelter were scattered on the ground. It was quite evident that the majority of her things were missing.
Helen tightened her grasp on her wand.
“Those mudbloods are going to pay.” She then disapparated to the Death Eater meeting with a cruel smile on her face.

Welcome, Sydney! Thank you for joining Insurrection!
We are happy to have you with us, but there is just one small bit of clarification that we need before your application can be sorted.

- Can you just clarify what happened after Helen lost her mother and her brother? As in, did she go back to Hogwarts during the school year until she graduated? Did she stay at the Work Camp with someone else? Did she keep it a secret that she was living on her own?

After this clarification, we will be able to sort Helen!

If you have any specific questions please feel free to PM one of the site Admins.

Yes, she went back to finish Hogwarts after her family was killed. She did not tell anyone that her guardians had died, so that she was not sent to live with someone else. Since her family had been homeless for a few years, she had learned how to take care of herself and was basically able to survive on her own during the summer, especially since she was at the work camps most of the time. Effectively, Helen acted as though she was an adult during the summer, and if her guise slipped at any point, no one cared because of all of the conflict happening in the society. No one gave her a second look, and as long as she did not explicitly tell anyone that she had no one taking care of her, then no one noticed.
Does that answer your questions?
