Character History:
Rita Skeeter is known for her devious and unique way of always getting the story, no matter what she does and who she has to step on to do it. She is extremely focused in her writing, and is an excellent writer. She is very clever with her words, both in person and in her reporting, and has a dramatic air about her that is a major part of her personality. Although she is known for her cruel and malicious methods, no one can deny her innovation and confidence.

Rita began Hogwarts in 1962 and was sorted into Ravenclaw House. She knew immediately what she wanted to do after graduating Hogwarts, as she was the person to go to in Hogwarts to get the gossip, and she had a way of revealing information about her fellow classmates. She knew that she would be very successful at this as a living, and was looking for the fame she knew that she would gain.

Rita began her career as a journalist with a horribly exaggerated biography of Armando Dippet, which began a best seller. This helped her to gain population and fame, therefore helping her with her future career. She wrote stories for the Daily Prophet and Witch Weekly, even reporting on several Death Eater trials after the First Wizarding War ended. As an unregistered Animagus, Rita was able to always get the story and the quotes she wanted, as she would sneak wherever she needed to be. One of her bigger claims to fame is her reporting of the Triwizard Tournament that took place at Hogwarts in 1994. At this Tournament, she was able to focus in on many interesting individuals, writing numerous articles about Harry Potter and his love interest, Hermione Granger, her other love interest, Viktor Krum, and found that there was no limit to the stories that she was able to find.

However, unfortunately for her, Hermione Granger found out that she was an unregistered Animagus, and captured her when she was perched outside the hospital wing window. She trapped her in a unbreakable jar, and threatened Rita that she would report her illegal activities to the Ministry if she didn't keep her 'quill to herself' for a year. Annoyingly enough, she had to comply.

But then, in 1995, Hermione Granger came to her, and was asked to interview Harry for the Quibbler about what was really going on. She agreed to this only because Granger once again threatened her with the knowledge she had of her illegal Animagus status. This interview was printed in the Quibbler, and was the issue's best-selling issue.

Her next story was her biggest killing yet, and it was the 900 page biography that she wrote about Albus Dumbledore, entitled "The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore."

After Voldemort's death, Rita focused on her next biography, on Severus Snape, which she titled "Snape: Scoundrel or Saint?" She also was in charge of reporting the majority of the Death Eater trials that followed.

Plots and Politics
Where does your character stand in the treatment of death eaters and their families? Because Rita works for the Daily Prophet, which is heavily skewed by the Ministry, she thinks that the treatment of the Death Eaters and their families are incredibly fair. She supports the new minister, and the way that the wizarding world is going. Since she experienced most of the trials firsthand, she thinks that this is apt punishment for all that Death Eaters had done. She also thinks the drama makes everything a hell of a lot more interesting.

How was your character and their family affected by the reign and death of Voldemort? Rita was happy when Voldemort died (obviously), because it meant that she was free to write about more interesting topics than she had to write about during his reign. She particularly enjoys writing about Death Eater trials, which was another reason she was happy. Most of her positive feelings about the death of Voldemort were because of how it positively affected her career.

Family History:
Rita's parents, Rylan and Poppy, met when they were both quite young. It was after Poppy had graduated Hogwarts, and was trying to determine if she wanted a job in the Muggle or Wizarding world. While she was out job hunting, she met Rylan, who was a Muggle. Their relationship progressed quickly and they were engaged within a year of dating. Poppy told Rylan that she was a witch immediately after the excitement of their marriage settled.

He was less than thrilled with the news, but he agreed to stay with her simply because they had only just gotten married. However, he wasn't really quite sure what to think about it, and was unsure how long the marriage was really going to last. He was contemplating asking for a divorce when Poppy told him that she was pregnant. This was yet another reason that Rylan felt as though he had to stay with Poppy, and they have always had a strained relationship because of that, as the marriage became one of obligation on Rylan's part, and trying to appease her husband with little success on Poppy's part.

Poppy and Rylan Skeeter both died during the First Wizarding War, and Rita ended up covering the trials of the Death Eaters that had killed them, which was also considered some of her best work.
