General Appearance: Ben has blue, narrow eyes and hair that is typically kept short and dark with facial hair at times…usually an indication of when he is very busy. Benjamin is heavy-footed, though he is able to sneak up on others. Confidence hardly ever leaves him as he bustles about doing business though, when he’s upset, he will clench his jaw and when he is nervous, he will start cracking his knuckles.

Character History:

Benjamin was the oldest of his three siblings. He was brought up in the belief that Muggles were beneath him. When he started at Hogwarts, he was sorted into Slytherin, like nearly everyone in his family. As this was all he really knew, he saw nothing wrong with how he thought about others. He followed in his parents’ footsteps in becoming a death eater as soon as he was able, in order to make his father proud. Benjamin had honestly believed that it was important to have a strong distinction between the muggle world and the magical one, not wanting to invite muggles into their world.

At the fall of Voldemort, Benjamin immediately fell off of the grid, knowing precisely what it was he needed to do in order to blend in. Though no one knew he was a death eater, as secrecy had been very important amongst death eaters, he still changed his appearance and certain details so that he could see how things were. The trials had begun against the death eaters and he paid very close attention to how they were going, shocked to hear about some who were being blamed as death eaters, and not shocked at others. He had grown irritated when the trials began for the families, knowing that Voldemort wasn’t stupid enough to have children about doing work that needed to be successfully completed. During his travelling and days of hiding, Benjamin saw and heard about the tragedies they caused. Naturally, he hadn’t cared all that much until he met Alison. Alison was a young witch, so full of life and optimistic all of the time. After spending much time with her, he quickly found himself falling in love, only to be devastated when he learned about the deaths of her family from a group of death eaters, knowing that he was one in the group. Feeling the need to tell her, he informed her that he had been in that group, hoping that she would understand. Unfortunately, she hadn’t understood and immediately her demeanor turned cold and hurt, disgusted with who he was and wanting to tell the authorities that he was a death eater. Not wanting her to do that, he erased her memories of him, leaving her to go back to London where it seemed like a downfall was approaching.

In 2002, Benjamin came out of hiding, quickly talking his way into taking a position as an Auror in London, wanting to keep a close eye on the situation that seemed to be unraveling. In 2005, he took the position of the Head of Auror after his predecessor perished at the hand of an escaped death eater. Benjamin poured himself into his work, wanting to try to understand what was on the agenda of the Ministry, but also feeling guilty that he had escaped as a death eater, not suffering the consequences for his actions as his fellow death eaters had.

Through the years he had only dated casually, his most recent girlfriend being Tatiana. However, this relationship has quickly been proving to be different than the other casual relationships, finding that there seems to be an actual connection there, something he had given up when he lost Alison.

To this point in his life, Benjamin has a rocky relationship with his siblings as he had killed his youngest sister in order to protect a muggle from her. None of his siblings had ever taken the title of a death eater, but they still struggle in the same mindset that they were brought up in about blood purity.

Plots and Politics
Where does your character stand in the treatment of death eaters and their families? Benjamin had been a Death Eater for a long time before he renounced the title, years after Voldemort had perished. He had seen firsthand some of horrors that death eaters could do and he had even done some of the horrors. He believes that death eaters do need to have consequences, but he supposes that is rather hypocritical since he himself hasn’t faced any consequences. Benjamin sees that the treatment of death eaters and their families, as well as purebloods, has been getting increasingly worse and he is half tempted to join the cause for equality, feeling that he has not left one evil to join another evil.

How was your character and their family affected by the reign and death of Voldemort? His parents, who were death eaters, had already passed. The death of Voldemort was a relief to him as he had renounced his title as a death eater at the end of 1997, having gone into hiding during the time before the Dark Lord fell.

Family History:
Samuel came from a half-blooded Scottish family, as did Isla. Samuel’s family was deep into the mindset of blood purity and they inbred that into their children. Isla also came from a half-blooded family, much to her extended family’s disappointment. Though they themselves were not pure, they blamed their forefathers for their mistakes, dirtying their blood. They truly believe that to purify themselves in even the slightest, they were to fight to protect the wizarding world from the disgrace that muggles brought. They were willing slaves to the cause of blood purity. Samuel had met Isla at school and they were both full supporters of Voldemort thereafter.

Both Samuel and Isla were death eaters that had gotten killed during one of the attacks on muggles, but their children were already adults at the time.
