Isaiah Judah Durant
48 - Male - Halfblood - 11/19/1966

Minister of Magic

Appearance and Personality
General Appearance: Isaiah is 6'0" and fit but not overly muscular. He has blue eyes, and dark brown hair. He normally has a bit of facial hair, as he prefers, though when he first became Minister he kept himself mostly clean shaven.
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Skills: He is able to see the big picture when it comes to planning, which helps him in seeing what steps it would take to get to his desired result. He is great at public speaking, which is what got him to his position, as well as being a successful conversationalist, and just charming in general. He is a good planner, and is also able to wait as long as it takes for something to come about as he is patient. He is good at and loves the political game.
Weaknesses: His inability to compromise and stubbornness is a huge weakness of Isaiah's. He is an impossible person to reason with when his mind is set to something. Talk of his daughter is something that also does not bring out his good side, and if she ever comes up in depth, he will get incredibly angry. More than likely, this will result in some new law involving Death Eaters, or some interrogations that normally end poorly. He is not good at Potions. He reacts very poorly when things to not go his way, though this is very rare at this point. His tendency to fire people who get in his way have left his with some enemies, but he just sees that as every politician having enemies.
Positive Personality Traits: Active, alert, articulate, calm, confident, determined, disciplined, forceful, meticulous, observant, organized, patient
Negative Personality Traits: Arrogant, brutal, calculating, cold, deceptive, demanding, dominating, extreme, indulgent, intense, obsessive, opportunistic, power-hungry, prejudiced, scheming, secretive, unpredictable
Hobbies and Interests: Learning foreign languages in order to better communicate with people that could benefit him. Running, archery, football (not that he has time for any of this often). Most of his time is spent planning and scheming. He enjoys playing the political game.
Character History:
As a child of a Muggleborn and a halfblood, Isaiah was raised right as Voldemort was coming to power the first time, and his parents were well aware of everything that was going on. They were incredibly cautious, trying to stay out of matters at all costs. But Death Eaters were attacking Muggles and Muggleborns, and both Abe and Noelle were getting increasingly worried by the day. However, they vehemently opposed Voldemort and everything he was doing, and Abe joined the Order of the Phoenix. Noelle had plans to join as well, but found out that she was pregnant, deciding to hold off on inserting herself into any dangerous situations until their second child was born.

However, it was now near the height of the war, and terror and chaos was all over as the Death Eaters became more brutal. They were aware of some members of the Order of the Phoenix, including Abe, but they thought they would send a bigger message to him about opposing them. It was then that they killed Noelle, and thus her unborn child, by means of the Killing Curse. Isaiah was only 13 at the time, and was devastated by the loss of his mother. His bitterness against Death Eaters and Voldemort began to grow, though he was too young to do much about it.

After Voldemort's defeat in 1981, he and his father tried to regain normalcy in their lives, but the loss of Noelle was not easy for them. They had never had the best father/son relationship and the separation between them only continued to grow over the years. Isaiah took a position in the Ministry immediately upon graduating and it was there that he met Isaiah met Leigh Hopkins and they began to date. Isaiah tried to put the past in the past as far as the war was concerned, but he was still angry about the amount of Death Eaters that seemed to have avoided justice. But since it was over and he was not in a position of authority, there was not much to do. He was happy with Leigh for a while, and they married and had their first child shortly after.

But then Harry Potter came out and told the world that Voldemort was back, and Isaiah's attention was immediately piqued. The Ministry did not believe the boy, but Isaiah began to plan. If the dark wizard was truly back, he wanted to be in a position to do something about it this time around. Finally, the Ministry began to fully believe the boy. He did not agree with any of the behavior of the Minister, but he watched closely, planning for a time when he could be a better leader than the man. Really, he did not believe that Rufus Scrimgeour did much better, but Isaiah was waiting for the right time, and it wasn't yet. He wasn't surprised when the man was killed, simply because he didn't have what it took to be in charge.

Biding his time came to an end when his daughter was killed in the Battle of Hogwarts. All of the anger that had been mounting since his mother's death had reached its peak. It was then that he began spreading whispers to the right people about the mental state of Potter and the new Minister Kingsley Shacklebolt. Having a pureblood in charge of the Ministry was clearly not something that would be acceptable for this new era. Luckily for him, it took less than a decade after the final battle (as he's a patient man) for Kingsley to be ousted from his position. With all of the power that he had been gaining throughout the years, Isaiah was the clear choice to replace him.

And so began his era. He started out big, making sure that Death Eaters could not get a job anywhere else. The criminals were unfit to work in normal society, after all, and they certainly shouldn't be able to get normal jobs after serving whatever minor punishments Shacklebolt had stuck them with. The work camp in Knockturn Alley is one of his bigger successes, in his mind, making sure that it is kept up to his standards at all times.

He was happy to see the deteriorating opinions of Death Eaters and purebloods over the years, making sure to oust any purebloods from positions of authority when he was able to. Luckily for him, it was never difficult to find a reason. His next move was to deal with the dangerous werewolf population, knowing that if the Death Eaters and purebloods wanted to fight back, those beasts would probably fight right alongside them. He cleared out the Werewolf Capture Unit, wanting his own people in place as he explained to them all their new mission. Werewolves were hardly people, really, and were just dangerous beasts. Because of that, they were the perfect test subjects for any number of tests. He tasked the unit with keeping an eye on all registered werewolves and bringing in any that even stepped a toe outside of the law. The purpose of this unit was to remain a secret for the timebeing.

He was irritated to hear about the formulation of the pro-equality group, rambling on about the rights of Death Eaters and the rest of the trash. Isaiah hates when people cause any rumblings that he disagrees with, and he especially hates it when they are following the letter of the law. He can't shut down an annoying organisation until they actually do something illegal, after all, so he is having to keep a close eye on them.

He decided to start questionings of all pureblood families that have any ties or suspected ties to Death Eaters, and begins these interrogations in 2011. He allows the interrogations to continue for two years, and although they were kept public knowledge for a time, he began to keep them more secret as different means of interrogation began to be used. It was then that he came up with his next move, which he has not yet put into place. Some Death Eaters had greatly affected particular families during the war, and justice in his mind would be Death Eaters serving this families like the practical house-elves that they deserved to be. Currently he is contemplating the best way to bring about this idea.

As he started to hear more annoying rumblings, he began requestioning all pureblood families, looking for any information. As long as there are Death Eaters and purebloods that are evading his manner of punishment, he plans to continue his work. Justice must be served, after all, and there shall be no more mercy.

Plots and Politics
Where does your character stand in the treatment of death eaters and their families? Due to their unforgivable crimes, Minister Durant is convinced that no manner of punishment is enough for them. Clearly he agrees with the treatment of the criminals and their families, as he is the one leading it. He will continue to question and punish as he sees fit, until he is sure that there is no Death Eater left standing. As far as he is concerned, families of Death Eaters should be brought down with them; as even though they might not bear the mark, they had to have known what was going on and allowed it to happen. Feigning ignorance does not make one innocent, in fact in his mind it makes them just as guilty.

He, of course, has heard of the group going around talking of equality for all, and is looking for a way to shut them down. Annoyingly enough, they aren't doing anything illegal, but he's prepared to take actions against them the second that changes.

How was your character and their family affected by the reign and death of Voldemort? He and his family were obviously greatly impacted by the reign of Voldemort. The first war brought about Abe joining the Order of the Phoenix, wanting to help to protect his family and the Wizarding World. He didn't realize that this put a target on his back and his family's and it resulted in Noelle being killed by Death Eaters as a warning against opposing them. This caused Abe to eventually leave the Wizarding World for good.

The second Wizarding world also brought major impacts, as it was when Isaiah's daughter was killed. Both of these incidents have only caused Isaiah's hatred to grow and build. It has caused Leigh to be so depressed at times that she is practically bedridden, but Isaiah uses this to his advantage while playing his political game, knowing that it makes them look more sympathetic. He obviously misses his daughter, but thinks he might as well make her death meaningful as opposed to just being depressed about it.

Family History:
Abe Durant was born to a Muggle mother and a wizard, and had a rather average upbringing. They lived in the Muggle world for the most part, but it was a partially mixed community, so he was able to grow up learning about both the Muggle and Magical world. However, he was anxious to get to Hogwarts, like all children his age were. He was sorted into Ravenclaw, and it was there that he met Noelle Tatham. They were friends for many years, not even dating until they were out of Hogwarts.

Noelle Tatham was born to Muggles, and knew nothing of the Wizarding World until she received her Hogwarts letter. She was very excited to learn more about this world that she was apart of, and was sorted into Ravenclaw. As a Muggleborn, she was subject to the normal discriminations and name-callings by some of the more prejudiced Slytherins, though she did not allow that to bother her. She knew that she belonged there as she had never fit in anywhere more, not even the Muggle world that she had lived in all her life. She had one younger brother, who was joked about as the accident, as he was so much younger than her, and he was accepted into Hogwarts as well.

The pair began dating out of Hogwarts, and married soon after. They only had one child by the name of Isaiah, and they had to become very cautious as the dark wizard Voldemort was apparently coming into power. They were worried as the attacks on Muggleborns became more common, especially since it was common knowledge that Noelle was a Muggleborn.

Abe joined the Order of the Phoenix, wanting to help to defeat this group as well as protect his family; but he didn't realize how much of a target that would actually be putting on him and his family's back. As a warning against opposing them, Noelle was killed.

Abe never fully got over this, and his relationship with his son was affected by this. However, he continued to fight with the Order of the Phoenix, though it wasn't long after that the dark wizard was defeated. He then quit from his job, and left the Wizarding world in favor of the Muggle one. He still has some contact with his son, mostly on holidays and has been kept up on what is going on. He was glad to be rid of the world when Voldemort came back, not having any plans to come back to help, though he was upset to hear that his grandchild was killed.

He is glad that the man is seemingly dead for good, and does enjoy hearing about what his son is accomplishing as Minister, though that is really the extent of the conversations that the pair have.
