Anything could happen
Letting Darkness grow As if we need
it's palette and we need it's color
But now I've seen it through And now I know the truth

Date: Wednesday, June 5th, 2019, 6pm Location: Park near the Ministry of Magic

Jarred had heard that there were some Braitewaithe performances going on at the park near the Ministry. He'd decided to pop out that way after work. It would be nice to hear a bit of live music and then he thought he would go over the club and have a drink. There was really no reason to rush home. Work was always busy, but Jarred had his paralegal working on research that would affirm or completely undermine the approach he planned to take on his most pressing case--so really, it was best to just wait to see which way the precedents leaned before putting more work into it.

So, there was time to take a stroll and enjoy the drop in temperature that had come this week. Why rush home? The Rookwood estate was always empty. Coldham Hall had been in the family for ages, so he would never think of living somewhere else. A modern flat in the city might be worth looking into, though, just for convenience and a more modern space. Mid-nineteenth century hand-painted wallpaper was impressive, sure--but it was not really his style.

So, Jarred made his way out of the Ministry and into the park. The sounds of music guided his feet. The wizard was struck by the complexity and emotion of the tune. It truly struck to the core of a person. He was not the most gifted artistically, but he could surely appreciate the fine arts.

There was quite a crowd gathered. Not feeling the need to push through the mass, Jarred  lingered towards the back. He ended up standing next to a incredibly beautiful witch. A glance from her to performer had him looking back at the beauty again. There were certainly some similarities in appearance between the two. It was nearly as enjoyable to hear the performance as it was to watch the stranger enjoy it. Something about how intently the beauty beside him was listening was captivating. He did not even know what instrument was being played--it appeared similar to the cello, but was bigger--and Merlin, the piece being performed was complex. He could not believe such range could be produced by a single instrument.

The whole experience was tremendously powerful. Jarred felt compelled to say something on the matter-- even just something small. So, leaning towards the woman beside him, he softly complimented: "She is really very good." But of course the performer was good... She was one of Braitewaite's. The only admitted the truly gifted. Savants and prodigies were who attended that school. No mediocrity would have ever been tolerated at the school.

[attr="class","cbody"]Coming to one of Tempe’s performances had not been a hard decision to make. She had wanted to come to more. If she had the time to come to all of them, she would have. Supporting her family was important to her. No matter what happened, no matter how she felt about them or how she assumed they felt about her, she was never going to be the one that didn’t show up. Constance knew how it felt to have people not show up. More recently than not these days, she felt as if she was on the outskirts of her own family. It was a feeling that she’d hated, but she hadn’t been able to help it. To her, it was just obvious.
[break][break]
But despite all of that, she wanted to support Temperance. She was her twin. She was a talented musician—the best, in her entirely unbiased opinion, in fact. Constance had no doubt that she’d been working incredibly hard, and she had wanted to be here to see it. She wanted to experience it. Music had always been important to her. On more than one occasion, she’d wondered if she’d be happier at Braithewaite. But it was never something that she’d managed to follow through on. She didn’t play the piano in front of people, how was she meant to go to school for it? That wasn’t exactly possible. But it was still something that she’d wondered about. Something that she’d considered, anyway, even if she wasn’t sure she’d ever act on it.
[break][break]
Today, she was just happy to be able to see Temperance perform, even if she wished she’d been able to come to more of the Braithewaite performances. Unfortunately, her schedule hasn’t allowed for it. It was lucky that she’d been able to carve out time for this one. She hadn’t told her sister that she was coming — she had seen no reason to. With their relationship decidedly rocky, she hadn’t thought there was a point in it, and she wasn’t even sure what kind of reaction she’s receive.
[break][break]
Instead, she’d just be one of many in the crowd and then she’d go home. Her twin could always manage to bring her mind to an entirely different place when she was playing. So distracted was she by the piece, for a moment she didn’t realize the person next to her had been speaking to her at all. Luckily, the realization was made in time to avoid her ignoring him completely. ”No one can play like she can.” She agreed, seeing no reason to tell a stranger that the person performing was her twin.

Anything could happen

Date: Wednesday, June 5th, 2019, 6pm Location: Park near the Ministry of Magic

As the Lord Rookwood, Jarred had many expectations on his shoulders. Patroning the arts was among those. He gave to Lady Gamp's Avalon. He gave to Braitewaithe. He would have liked to have been able to enjoy the arts more, but his obligations often drew his attention elsewhere. He had Sorrel to care for. He had the Rookwood estate to manage. He had his position in the Wizengamot. And of course, his actual vocation as an advocate within the Department of Justice. It left much less time for pleasure than the man would have liked. But he prioritized. He did not miss mass. He did not shirk purist societal obligations. That was not the sort of man that he was.

Jarred Linden Rookwood did what was expected of a man in his position. It was the duty of the pureblood aristocracy to care for those less fortunate. He took this responsibility very seriously, as his father had and the Rookwood lords before him. They were to be a pillar of society. It was the righteous duty of the family to also be a beacon of truth, justice and fairness. They were a line dedicated to Catholicism and the teachings of Christ. It had guided Jarred into his career-- this familial commitment to justice. He felt noble in his vocation-- something very important to him. He needed his life, particularly his career, to have importance.

Making a career from the spoken and written word, it had been easy to speak to the pretty witch. Jarred was not shy, but he was respectful. Though he wanted to stare at her, to etch into his memory every detail of her exquisite face, he would not dare let his glance linger more than a second before returning his eyes to the performer. Jarred was very careful to maintain all appearances of propriety. He believed himself to be a true gentleman.

But gentleman could converse with strangers without broaching decency-- and she had seemed to enjoy the music so completely. It was moving to simply watch her watch the performance. He had never felt music as deeply as this woman seemed to. It made him all the more curious about her. To be able to enjoy life as she seemed to enjoy these beautiful notes was a rare and precious thing. He was a man captivated.
"Have you heard her play before?." Jarred asked, made more curious by the witch's comment. He wanted to know more-- more about her, more about this music. His eyes caught sight of a diamond glinting on the beautiful stranger's hand and his heart plummeted, his stomach twisting. He knew nothing of the woman. He did not know her blood status. He did not know her standing in society. But he was pained to know that someone had already laid claim to her. Though, he could not be surprised. She was beautiful-- and seemed kind. Of course, there would be a man eager to make her his. Jarred knew nothing of her and the urge had already stricken him. A wiser man would have just let the conversation die. He liked to believe himself a wise man, but he would play the fool tonight to steal another moment of the woman's time.

[break][break]
[attr="class","cbody"]Despite everything that was going on with her family, and everything that was going on in her head, Constance hadn’t dreamed of not showing up for at least one of Temperance’s performance. Even if her twin had no idea she was here, it was just something that she needed to do. It was something that she wanted to do. As much as she loved ballet, she loved music. It went hand-in-hand, of course, but her sister performing was different than the music chosen at Avalon. It was not the same thing at all, not in her mind. There was just nothing quite like listening to her sestra perform. Despite everything, it was just not something that she was going to miss. She had to be here. Even with her doubting almost every relationship in her life, skipping out on this was not something that she was going to do.
[break][break]
Constance had no idea if her family had made their own selective appearances to some of her performances. She had no idea if any of them were here now. She supposed that they might have been, but she thought that she would have known that. The guards kept in enough contact that they likely would have been aware if there was anybody else here today. Constance honestly thought that she would have spot out a guard in this kind of crowd. She didn’t personally think that they were all that great at blending. They screamed hired protection, which was part of her problem with having them around. Constance did not mind attention in her direction. For the most part, she was okay with it, used to it, all of that. She was a princess—of course, she was used to attention. Yes, they didn’t get attention here the way they would have back home, but the fact still remained. She did not mind attention. Usually it was flattering. But attention on her because it was very clear that she had a bodyguard stuck to her side was not the best kind of attention to have.
[break][break]
Everyone’s eyes were on the performance, though, which made it easy for her to get lost in it as well. She was glad that she had come. It had been tough to navigate her schedule with all of the performances, but she would have regretted it if she hadn’t been able to make it here. If her schedule hadn’t allowed for it, even if Temperance hadn’t minded her absence, she definitely would have cared. She was glad that it had been possible for her to work it out—but, really, even if she’d had to feign an emergency to get a final rescheduled, she would have made sure to make it here.
[break][break]
She had not even glanced over at the man when she had first spoken. Her eyes had still been on the stage, since she had thought it was just a passing comment that he’d made. She hadn’t thought that it had been an attempt to start a conversation, so she hadn’t seen a reason to look away from her sister’s performance. When he spoke again, she realized that wasn’t the case and she knew she couldn’t very well not so much as look at him while speaking to him. It would have been entirely rude to not even glance in his direction while talking to him. So, this time, when she spoke, she looked over at him first. ”She’s my twin sister, so yes,” she explained, smiling slightly. She was proud of her for performing so well, though she hadn’t had any doubts that that would be the case.
