is to love
Even when it gets too much
I'm not ready to give up

Rolling over onto her side, Ella let her eyes wander over her husband. They had been married nearly two years. And in some ways, that felt impossible. That it was two years ago that he had said that Miles had decided it was time for him to marry. That they were going to choose someone, a bride that he didn’t know. Someone that he couldn’t, or at least didn’t love. She had volunteered. Who did that? Who volunteered to be someone’s wife? Ella… She was that kind of person. And she had done it with more on her mind that just saving him. She had done it knowing that the MacGuffins were a solidly neutral family.

She had done it knowing that if things were to change. If her father were to raise her station, then Elliot would be a fine Crown Prince. She did it knowing that one day, that was their destiny. That they would have to leave England. That they would, she would, become the ruler of the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. That their children would take up that mantel when she passed it on to them. There were so many things that she had had to consider when deciding her own future. And they had let her choose. They had let her make that choice.

No marriages in England were going to be deemed worthy enough of her should they have matched them when they were children. The only way that seemed fair was to let her deem what was worthy herself. And she had chosen this. She had chosen him. This life together. This house. Their future. She knew that it was all grander than anything that Elliot had dreamed of. She knew that he had been fine in that cottage in Godric’s Hollow, with the dog, and her cat, and their little yard. But that was not Ella.

This was her compromise. This Hall was still grand. It was still larger than Malcolm’s home. Which Ella found slightly amusing if she were being honest. But she knew that she couldn’t let her thoughts drift too far towards her mama right now. She had every intention of telling him about her true parentage. Well, about who her father was. Mamá was still her mama, and that was never going to be called into question. But she knew that she needed to tell him why she had done the things that she had done.

Why, when Tató had told her that she needed to go to the Ministry with Mamá she had listened. Why, she had walked away from what she loved in the hospital, to take up politics on a grander scale. She was going to be the Delegate in six months. And by that point, she thought that the world might just know who she was. That the world might realize that the heir, the true heir, to the Czech crown, had been hidden away in England this entire time. And she knew that that was going to change everything. But telling Elliot the truth was important.

It wasn’t that she had lied. They had never really discussed her parents. She didn’t talk about Andrew. And while it was partially because of the way that he had died, it was also partially because of the way that he had treated Mamá when he was alive. Ella knew far too much. And she saw far too much. The darkness around them all had changed again. There was a sense of unease when she went to the Nott home in the mornings, or in the evenings. Something around Mamá had changed. And she couldn’t look Tató in the eye on her screen and tell him nothing was wrong. Clearly something was, but Ella had no proof. She had nothing other than her own abilities ot tell her that.

Leaning across the space between them, Ella kissed Elliot’s shoulder before she moved his arm around her and put her arm across his chest. “There’s something I want to talk to you about…” They had had plenty of discussions like this in bed before. Or at least things that had started like this. The choice to have a baby. The discussion about whether or not they were ready to try again… Maybe they were more ready now… But maybe, after this, he wouldn’t want anything to do with her at all. She hoped not. And she didn’t think that would be the case. But she still worried.

Telling someone this magnitude of a secret… It was nerve wrecking. She hadn’t even meant to tell Delilah when it had come pouring out of her. Telling Tempe had been deliberate. But more focused. And her sestra was not going to walk away from her for this. Elliot could. He could leave her, leave this, leave everything. And she hated that thought. She hated thinking that she was going to lose him, when she had only really started to finally feel like herself. She turned her chin so that it rested on her arm, and she could look up at him from where she was laying, half draped over his right side.

to be human

[attr="class","reasonsmall2"]To be human is to love Even when it gets too much I'm not ready to give up

[attr="class","reasonbod2"]There were some days that Elliot could not believe that his life was his own.

His therapist said that he would eventually come to terms with it – that eventually, he would stop beating himself up for being happy. And in some ways, staring across the bed at Ella, he believed him. Because right here, right now, Elliot believed that he deserved happiness. He believed that he deserved the woman lying across from him.

He had never imagined that love or marriage was in his future. In fact, Elliot was more content to sit on the sidelines than he was to pursue someone in a romantic sense. But his father’s ultimatum over two years had put a different spin on his story. Now, he was a husband. He was part of a team. He and Ella, they worked together. At least, they were trying to.

The past two years had brought trials and tribulations for the both of them. It had been a time of trying and failing, succeeding and flourishing. The good and the bad, coupled together into one, seamless existence.

They had celebrated Elliot’s return to Dragonology, grieved over the loss of a child. Elliot had fallen apart, and Ella had been there to pick up the pieces. They had grown apart and subsequently grown back together. Ella had chosen a new path at the Ministry and Elliot was there to cheer her on. And through it all, Elliot had fallen more and more in love with the dark-haired beauty. Through it all, he realized that this was the life that he had never imagined, but always wanted.

As Ella drew closer to him, Elliot’s lips prickled with a smile as he drew his arm around her, his index finger tracing small circles on her shoulder blade. He could stay like this forever, he thought, momentarily closing his eyes. He could sleep – he wanted to. He’d been sleeping regularly, now, with the help of a few sleeping draughts that he picked up from the pharmacy at Mungo’s. He needed them to quiet his mind some nights, but this evening was not one of them. No, Elliot felt at peace.

But Ella’s voice drew him out of it like a melody. Blinking a few times, he looked down at her – at least, all he could see from his vantage point. “Oh?” This was a safe room – their haven. It seemed like the deepest conversations they had happened on either side of the large bed in the center of the room. Here, they were raw – they were uninhibited. Here, Elliot and Ella and cried and loved.

He paused, his left hand cupping her chin as she looked up at him. Her bright eyes seemed clouded – it must be important. He was horrible at reading other people, but when it came to Ella, he could always grasp the gravity of her words. Perhaps all Elliot needed was practice. He nodded his head, allowing her to continue. Whatever it was, they could weather it together, Elliot thought.
