Snow fight! Over tonight
In the park, after dark
Come out! Young and the old
To have fun in the cold
@ DUELING CLUB | outfit

Being back in the castle had it's ups and downs for everyone. Some people couldn't wait to get back into the swing of things while others wished like crazy for an additional week. Truth be told Dima was happy about returning. If he could have just stayed over the break he would have, but his curiosity had gotten the best of him. He didn't really believe that his father would come home for the holiday. Part of him hoped, but any expectation had long since been crushed. Dad hadn't been around since summer and, still, no one seemed to give a shit. No one cared that he wasn't checking in. No one cared that he wasn't replying to his owls, or that he had missed his son's wedding. Nobody cared and it was getting to the point that he was starting not to either.

Dima had spent most of his break ignoring the fact that his father wasn't around, and in doing so ended up spending more time with his brothers. Which....actually turned out to be sort of fun? Usually he didn't have fun with them. Usually he ignored and avoided them, but without dad around and mum being completely oblivious to the workings of the wizarding world, his brothers were all he had. And it turned out that when they weren't all in the same school pestering one another they were actually sort of interesting to be around. They had spent Christmas at Phief's, Alek had let him drink way too much Vodka at his flat, and they had a snowball fight. A horribly awesome and insane snowball fight, and it really got Dima excited for dueling club.

Casting snowballs wasn't exactly the greatest form of offensive attack, but it was extremely fun. Defending against them was also fun, and good practice really! Especially considering how many had been flying past Dima's head in just the small outdoor setting of his brother's backyard. With the entire dueling club?! It sounded like a blast. All week long he had been looking forward to their meeting today. He had called it to meet outdoors today for reasons pretty obvious to himself but he could tell a few members seemed a little confused upon showing up. Standing in front of them he told them of his plan:

"
Ok, so, I know coming back from break most of our brains aren't working all the way yet so...I thought we'd do something fun. And a little easy today." He scanned the club members with a smirk. With a flick of his wand a snowball rose up from the snow beneath him, hovering just off the end of his wand. It was a simple enough spell, one most had likely learned their first or second year, and that meant fun for everyone! "We're going to have a snowball fight. It'll be easy offensively because....well, it's just snowballs. Defensively--" he shrugged as a full smile came on his face, "It'll be what you make it. Easy blocks, for the people like me who's mind isn't working just yet, or harder ones if you're up for it. And just like regular dueling, you'll have to keep on your toes!"

With one quick snap of his arm the snowball hurled toward his quidditch teammate @olivette . He had been dropping ominous hints at her all day that come dueling club he was coming for her, though she likely hadn't expected that! Before he could even notice her reaction a whole mess of snowballs began flying about and the war was on.

((OOC: Donald's Outfit ))

Donald was really looking forward to duelling club, especially the first duelling club of the post-Christmas break. It was one of the many extra-curricular activities that the young lad did and enjoyed. He enjoyed them all but was thinking that maybe it was time to cut back on them next year. They were all fun and useful, but he also wanted some time to spend with his friends and sibling that was not within a structured activity. Having an older sister also meant that Donnie could see how hectic the next year would be for him and that he would have to do more to balance spending time with his friends, family, practising for quidditch and, most important of them all, his studies. However, duelling would be one of the clubs that he would stay a member of.

In his opinion, he felt that it was essential to know how to defeat himself if attacked and keep himself safe. Donnie would avoid a duel if at all possible. Of course, he had a few duels with his sister, both practice and serious fights, but he knew that just waving your wand and hoping for the best would not be enough. There had to be some skill involved that he had to be focused and have the concentration to ensure that he was not bested in any duel. Of course, being the quidditch team did help him with his focus and concentration, especially in the role of seeker, but that was not the same as duelling. Besides which, it was usually an enjoyable club in general.

The young boy wrapped up warm for the club, it was outside, and it was snowy and somewhat cold. Not that the fourth year was not used to the cold, he came from Wales after all. The Scottish cold seemed a bit different from the Welsh cold. Maybe it was just his imagination. After all, cold was cold was cold right? He decided that it was just his mind playing tricks on him as he ventured out onto the lawns. It wasn’t as if he wasn’t used to the cold in Scotland in any case. He had practice in it for quidditch enough.

Speaking of which, the Ravenclaw seeker was delighted to see his fellow teammates @dima and @olivette on the lawns. He was supposed that he shouldn’t have been too surprised to see Dima there, he did lead the club after all. ”Hiya Dima and Vet” his Welsh accent lilted as he greeted them. With a polite smile.

After greeting his housemates, the pale-skinned boy then wandered over towards his sister, Amy. ”Alright Amy” he said smiling at her. The Welsh wizard valued any time he got to spend with his sister and hoped to pair up with her again. Both because it was the only legitimate time that he could hurl spells at his sister and because he felt safer practising duelling with the Hufflepuff than he would with someone he didn’t know that well. It might be better to say that he felt safe practising with Amy most of the time. If he had done something to annoy or anger her, then he would probably seek another partner, lest Amy seek to use this club as an opportunity to punish him. He hadn’t done anything to specifically upset her recently, so he knew that she wouldn’t use this club as an opportunity to exact revenge for something.

The fourth-year Ravenclaw listened to Dima as he spoke. It sounded like a really fun idea. He wondered if they were meant to be targeting each other or working in pairs? Before he could even ask his question, the snowball fight had started. Someone had sent a snowball hurtling towards the back of his head; he turned to see his sister grinning with he wand drawn and three other snowballs flying right at him, all hitting him and sending him flying onto his backside. Getting up he pulled his wand and raised some snowballs of his own. If his laughing sister wanted a war, it was now on.

((OOC: Amy's Outfit))

Amy wanted to feel grumpy, she wanted to feel very grumpy. It was too cold of a day to be venturing outside for duelling club. Part of her wanted to remain in the Hufflepuff common room and keep warm by the fireplace and simply forgo the club today. However, she had not had a chance to see her brother that much since Christmas, and he was going to be at the club. So the Hufflepuff, being a good older sister, decided to make an effort to leave the comfort of her nice and cosy common room, relaxing with her cat on her lap, and instead make her way over to this bleedin’ club in the bloody cold.

She intended to be cantankerous. However, she was finding it difficult to be such as she wandered towards the lawns in the snow. The Welsh girl found the snow to have a very relaxing effect on her. She supposed it was how picturesque Hogwarts looked in it. The young lass just found it difficult to be annoyed at the cold when it was so beautiful. It was not that she wasn’t that used to the cold anyway. Merthyr Tydfil could be quiet cold, and snowy in the winter. Amy had always liked snow; she loved building snow women and making snow angels. Even occasionally having snowball fights with her friends when she was in the right kind of mood.

Still, the 15-year-old was no fool, and she had wrapped up warm, she pulled her scarf a bit tighter around her neck as she approached the location that the duelling club as to be held. Amy was not bad at duelling, not at all indeed sometimes she could find herself getting into arguments and fights with people who irritated her, or who too objection to her…stubbornness and hot-headedness. Of course, she tried to get into fights and arguments if she could at all help it. Just, sometimes, they were unavoidable. So duelling was a useful tool for her in that end. One never knew when one had to defend themselves in an argument, or if one was going to be attacked by someone with malicious intentions.

The young Welsh witch-in-training gave the head of the club a small, but respectful nod as she took her place to listen to what their task was for today’s session. Amy looked around to see if her brother was there already, but he wasn’t. It didn’t worry her; she was sure that Donnie would be there soon enough. The whole point of her coming to this club was to hang out with him, so he better show up, or she would not be very happy.

It didn’t take that long for the spiky-haired terror to show up. The blacked haired girl watched as her brother greeted his quidditch teammates before spotting and walking over to her ”Okay Don?” she responded to his alright, returning his smile. ”Looking forward to today’s club. I think it is a bit odd for it to be outside. I wonder what they are up too?” she mused to her sibling before looking at Dima. Once the club started, she was sure that an explanation would be coming. The Hufflepuff didn’t believe that he had just dragged them out here because he liked the cold.

”I see you are dressed up nice and warm Donnie.” she commented on the rather snug attire he had on, making note of the extra warm jumper that he had on. The fifth year was glad that Donald was not one of these people who didn’t wear enough layers. That was an excellent way to catch a cold, or get a chest infection or something along those lines. Sometimes Don has some common sense she thought to herself. Although she still considered him to be a complete idiot most of the time.

Before she could continue her conversation with her younger brother the leader of the club started addressing them. The young lass paid attention to what he was saying. It was a good thing, in her opinion, that they were taking easier just after Christmas. A lot of people, not her of course, but a lot of other people still had cobwebs in their heads after the break. Amy found that she got back into the flow of things rather quickly. Well, that is what she told herself. But it was good that they were doing something for those who probably still were in holiday mode. If she were honest with herself, she would have found that she was still not back into the flow of things yet either. However, it was something that she didn’t want to believe about herself, and the thought had not crossed her mind.

Amy’s eyes lit up at the mention of a snowball fight using magic, and she immediately took a few, careful and discreet, steps back from her brother while he was still paying attention to Dima. A thought had crossed her mind. The 15-year-old drew her wand out and carefully made four snowballs that she magically held in the air. Luckily Don was too distracted and listening too closely to Dima to have heard she whisper the appropriate enchantments to make the snowballs and lift them skywards.

The Welsh witch carefully bided her time. It was tempting to attack her brother right away, but she knew she had to resist. That she had to wait for the war to begin officially, going too early might disrupt the entire course of the club and get her into trouble. Not in the least from her little brother. If she waited too long then, Donnie would notice what she was up to and have time to counter-attack. While the Westwood girl realised that was the whole point of the exercise, she wanted to draw first blood against Don and make sure that she landed a few free shots on him. Amy saw it as a perk to being a big sister.

Once the timing was right, a smirk crept on her face, and she used magic to hurl one of the snowballs towards the back of her sibling’s head. It should get his attention, and it did. Don turned around, and she gave her brother a massive grin. She was delighted that she had landed a good surprise attack on her younger sibling.

She was not done yet before her brother could respond she launched her three-remaining snowball at Donnie’s chest quiet hard and managed to knock him onto his backside. Amy burst out into a laugh at him. It wasn’t a mean laugh, just one that she was enjoying herself. The Hufflepuff was positively surprised that she was, to be honest, but very pleased. Her brother got up with a determined look on his face. She knew that she had probably provoked a war now and she was ready. ”Okay Don” she said as she summoned up a few more balls ”Catch Donnie” she hurled one of them at her brother and watched to see if he was able to block it. He should, he was prepared now, she had given him some warning, and it wasn’t going that fast or hard. Of course, when it was his turn t attack her, she was sure that Donald would be looked for revenge for her first attack. She wanted to keep him on the defensive for as long as possible.

Being back at school a wasn’t going to be easy. At home, she had more freedom to sleep whenever she pleased and didn’t have to try and keep track of which assignment she had due the following morning. She had really enjoyed her time off and more importantly, seeing her family and spending time with them. Sure she had her brothers at school with her but she missed the other members even if she had the chance to see them with being at her internship. There was just something special about being home at Christmas and New Years. Vet knew it was time to get back to school and into the swing of things. It was just a matter of finding her rhythm again and she would be right. She looked forward to all the time she would be able now to spend with her friends as well as getting back to Qudditich practice and making sure that Ravenclaw had a good chance of winning the cup this year or at least attempting at their best.

She was also happy to be attending a Duellng club meeting organised by Dima. She knew her friend was proud to be the lead of the club and she was proud of him too. He definitely challenged her when it came to duelling. Vet always enjoyed a challenge both in the classroom and out of it. She found that made her days at Hogwarts interesting. She wanted to finish from here with a good experience and memories to match. So she knew she had to make the most of all the chances she was given. With all the troubles that had taken place in the magical world while she had been a student here as well as what had gone on outside the school, she thought that Duelling was a great skill to have or at the very least, hone while she was here at school. It was much safer to learn it here than outside

Dima had been telling her all day long that he was going to get her and she was lost as to what he was referring to. Naturally, she had been asking him what on Earth he had been talking about but he had been very quiet about it. She wasn’t sure what exactly he was getting her back for. They had had their regular start to the day where he would wait for her to come down from the girl’s dorm in the morning and they had headed down to the breakfast together. It had seemed very routine and they had had a very ordinary Saturday. At the designated time she had joined @dima as he and the others had assembled on the lawns for the meeting. She noted that like a lot of the other members she was confused why they were outside. Most, if not all Duelling club meetings were held inside. Though, she did have to admit being outside was a lovely change.

When her friend announced a snowball fight, her eyes lit up a little before realisation dawned on her and she looked to her friend with narrowed eyes. So this was what he meant by him getting her. Vet had had many snowball fights with her siblings, granted they went easy on their youngest sibling because she was still young but the four older ones hardly held back with each other. The grounds of the manor were vast and it neither of their parents put a stop to it, their fights would never end.

Hearing her name she smiled at . He was younger than her and Dima but he would likely know the spell that was needed for this. Vet eyed everyone that was present and her fingers wrapped around her wand that was currently stashed up her sleeve. She smirked as her gaze landed back on her friend. ”Oi, that was uncalled for!” she laughed at being hit by a snowball from him. Vet recovered soon and ducked out of the way of another before she pulled her wand out quickly and conjured up some snowballs and fired them at @artemis. The Slytherin girl was hardly off limits in this activity.

Athazaz rather liked Dueling Club.

He wasn't particularly martial-minded, but it was the largest club in the school, and that was good enough to make Atha social and go. He'd tugged along @nick , with the claim that they were going to need a practicing Healer at some point. Besides, if Clio and Herraro-Morgan wound up near each other, there were bound to be injuries that needed someone's help. And Nick's authority might be able to break that up somewhat, or at least stop it from getting into a Gryffindor-Slytherin fight. Not that those were bad, per say, but then the younger kids would decide to pile on. They wouldn't listen if Atha tried to stop them, they might listen to Dima Remnikov if they were in a good enough mood, but they'd listen to Nick, Athazaz was positive.

There were many advantages to having the Head Boy as the boyfriend, after all, and Atha had decided to take advantage of every single one of them when Nick got the shiny badge in his envelope. "Split up?" he suggested easily, a grin on his face. "Or stick together? Or against others, you know how easily I get distracted by you when you're all authoritative, not that that's a bad thing. . " He screwed up his face in mock thought, and crushed a snowball down the front of Nick's shirt.

With a whoop of joy, he conjured a Shield Charm, trying to pack another snowball with his free hand, scrambling backwards as he did so. His eyes darted left and right, spotting only one of the Ollivander kids he could use as another shield. He dashed to their side, pretending to crouch behind them. "Can't get me, just you try!"

NEVER GO OUT OF STYLE
jame dean daydream look in your eye
when we go crashing down, we come back every time

Emanuel did not always make it out to Dueling club events. He tried to make them when he could, though, because they were fun. They let you let loose and just burn off the excess energy (and sometimes annoyance) that built up being at Hogwarts. As Dima laid out the plan for today the Gryffindor grinned. He always loved a snowball fight and this was guaranteed to be a really good one.

Scanning the circle of students, he laid eyes on @roxanne . His captain would make an excellent option to battle it out with. He through up a shield to protect himself from a series of snowballs that Dima's initial flurry had sent towards him. They exploded against the magical barrier, causing him for a moment to loose sight of the other lion. He tried to think of a spell that he could use to magic the snow into balls, but he didn't really know a charm for making balls out of something, though he was fairly sure there was a cooking prep charm for it. The spell just wouldn't come to him.

So, the wizard crouched and stuck his gloved hand down in the snow, forming a ball. A few Slytherins tried to get him, but he dodged one attack and flicked a spell at another snowball. Instead of a shielding charm, Emanuel hit the ball with a weak exploding charm, sending snow flying in all directions away from where the ball had originally been sailing through the air. He spotted the curly haired Weasley again. "ROXY!"  He yelled out just as he pulled back his arm and launched the ball at her. He was hoping her name would pull her attention his way and let him hit her with one of the snowballs.

[attr="class","reasonbodroxanne"]Snowball fight? Roxy could handle a snowball fight, couldn’t she?

It was just like throwing a Quaffle…probably. Well, throwing a Quaffle with a wand. And then using said wand to also deflect the snowballs that came her way. Easy. Took bad she was paying too much attention to the other members of the club already getting pelted with snowballs. What was this, amateur hour? Roxy snorted as she watched one hit Roderick Bletchley. She couldn’t hep but laugh — the sort of laugh that caused her to double over. It was ridiculous. They were all acting like children and she was ready for it. “C’mon, Bletchley, I’ve seen better work on the Quid—”

She heard her name and recognized the voice. But she hadn’t been expecting what happened next.

“Delaney!” Roxy said, turning sharply. It was almost an instinctual reaction. It was like they were on the pitch and she was chastising him over a shot that he’d just missed. Only this time, he didn’t miss. The snowball hit Roxy square in the chest. How had he…?! “You little…” Looking down she watched in horror as the packed snow crumbled around her sweater and then in the blink of an eye, she was crouching back down again, picking up some snow and shoving it into a spherical mound that she could easily lob at Emanuel.

“You got lucky — I wasn’t paying attention,” she said, tossing the snowball up in the air and drawing her wand. With a quick swish and flick, she had it levitating. And, as if she was using her wand like a beaters’ bat, she launched the snowball back at her Keeper with a laugh before she crouched down behind one of the small snow banks that had formed on the lawn and awaited her next assault.
