Do the girls back home touch you like I do?

[attr="class","cbody"]She didn’t know how it had started exactly. Sasha couldn’t remember every detail of the conversation and how it had led up to this, but she and Devin had decided to look for flats when they were free of Hogwarts for the Easter holidays. After graduation, Devin needed somewhere to go, after all. She knew that he didn’t want to overstay his welcome at the Audreys and that he thought they had already done more for him than they needed to. He needed a place to live and she… well, she was very ready to get out of her parents’ house.
[break][break]
There was a good chance that Devin hadn’t fully understood that until this week. He had been staying with her, with meant that he had actually gotten a chance to meet her parents and spend time with them—as much time as was possible when they were not often home, anyway. Often enough to hear her mother’s cutting remarks about her weight and everything else under the sun. She was used to it. Though she always watched her weight and had a near obsession with staying in shape and not eating too much, she had to be even stricter with herself when she was home. Her mother insisted on it. It was just the way her relationship with her had always been. Appearances mattered more to Hadley Augustine than really anything else.
[break][break]
Sasha had not expected Devin’s reactions to the remarks. She just took them in stride like she always did. She cut her portion sizes, exercised in the morning before Devin woke up, and tried to refrain from emptying the contents of her stomach in the bathroom after dinner. That had been an old habit. One that had happened on occasion before the registration but hadn’t happened since then. Obviously, her weight had not been the most important thing on her mind back then. Even if it was, she had lost enough weight during her time at Kolna that it had been one of the first things that her mother had noticed when she’d returned. Since then, she had gained a lot of it back, which Hadley had obviously noticed.
[break][break]
Still, she hadn’t expected the reaction that Devin had had. She definitely hadn’t expected him to say that they were leaving.
[break][break]
She definitely thought that Devin understood a bit more why she wanted out of her house as soon as possible. As much as she was, in some ways, very used to her parents and had nearly normalized all of their treatment, a part of her still didn’t want to deal with it anymore. Even if she and Devin had only officially gotten together in February, somehow it didn’t feel strange at all to be looking at apartments with him. It didn’t feel rushed or like they were jumping into something. It was just something that felt right.
[break][break]
Tomorrow, they would have to return to Hogwarts. They’d looked at plenty of apartments over break and the reality really hit her on just the type of apartment that they’d be able to afford. It was a far cry than what she was used to, and she was trying incredibly hard not to let that show. It wasn’t the size of the place that mattered anyway—and it would be a lot better than sleeping on the floor in Kolna. It was all a matter of perspective, wasn’t it? They hadn’t found a flat just yet, and it had already been a long day. Sasha thought they might need to call it quits pretty soon, or at least take a break. The next flat on the list was on Harbord Street, and from the outside… well, she wasn’t horribly impressed from the outside.
[break][break]
But they had just made it inside, and it wasn’t half bad. She had broken off with Devin to check out the bedroom, thinking that this was probably the best place they had seen so far. And because of that, it was probably pretty close to the higher threshold of what they could afford.

on the west side
me and you, handsome
your mansion with a view

Devin did not need much when it came to a place to live. Hell, he could have gone back to Kolna and been fine. It really had not been that bad there to him. The rats in the walls had made a lot of noise, sure... But he was used to that... And while the water had been disgusting, there had been running water, which was a step up from the times when the utilities had gotten cut off when his worthless addict mother had spent the bill money on shit to shoot into her arm. Whatever, he did not have to worry about that anymore. She was dead and not worth a single thought in his head. Devin was not going to let her memory creep into his consciousness today.

Today was supposed to be happy and positive. He and his girlfriend were away from Hogwarts. They were looking at flat. The two of them were taking steps to make their future together a reality. He felt good about it. It might have seemed fast to some, but that wasn't how he saw it. In Hackney, it was nothing for a couple to shack up early in their relationship. That had a lot more to do with money than anything else--except maybe shagging. Shagging was probably actually the number one reason for rushed cohabitation, which was definitely part of his own motivations. He wanted Sasha in his bed all the time. That was just part of being seventeen.

There were things about him that were true to his age all young and shit, even if his head was focused on earning money and all that grind. He was going take care of Sasha-- no matter what it meant he had to do. He was going to keep her away from her condescending parents without making her give up all the things that she loved and enjoyed. The luxe life was something he could get for her-- probably not without bending the law, but who gave a fuck about that? He had been a thief all his life. He'd take care with her, though-- no just giving her stolen shit as gifts. He would pawn it and use the coin to buy her things. Or maybe just give her the money. Maybe both. Whatever he needed to do to keep her happy and feeling like she made the right decision walking away from the Augustines for a life with him.

None of the landlords had been really thrilled to meet the pair of them. But he hoped that the cash he had in his pocket would change the mind of whoever they decided to rent from. He had made really good money over Easter break in the ring and Paroxysm. He knew he would probably have to pad the deposit to make up for their ages, but he was ready to do that. He was going to do whatever it took to get a place to live that Sasha could be happy with. That was where his head was at. The landlady had side-eyed him as Sasha wandered off through the apartment. Devin informed the woman that if they took interest in the flat that he was prepared to pay cash to include the deposit, first and last month's rent today. The bint's demeanor immediately shifted and she started prattling off features of the unit. He wasn't listening.

He thought the place was nice. Devin had never lived somewhere so spacious that wasn't the castle, and that did not really count. That was not his space. It was whoever was the current big shot from the revolving door of Headmaster/ Headmistress. The landlady seemed to take the hint and excused herself down to the office, offering to begin drawing up lease paperwork. It had just taken a glimpse of the roll of banknotes in his pocket to get her to change her demeanor. People were so predictable. Devin did not acknowledge the woman as she left. He just went to find Sasha. "What you think, Sash?" Devin asked coming up behind the blonde and slipping his arms around her waist. "You see us waking up here?" He could see it. But he could picture them anywhere just as long as it was them. He had almost messed all that up, but she had forgiven him and he was all in on making it worth taking that risk. Devin wasn't going to hurt her ever again.
