He'd hoped he was put with Maggie or . . .

He wasn't sure. Octi had gotten wrapped up, and maybe was with Hal (who knew?), and Alis and Apollo certainly were. They'd just faded, having little time for each other anymore. Same with Dario, he'd even broken up with Maggie. Hels had felt like he'd had so many friends to begin with, and. . .well, he had Maggie, he always had Maggie and he was maybe friendlier with Nick than her had been before, but he still missed the glow of companionship.

He didn't really miss being a third wheel, though. He didn't feel extraneous anymore, because most of his free time was spent with Maggie, trying to cheer her up. He'd really liked Dario, had crushed on him a little, but at the end of the day, Dario had broken up with Maggie, and he and Maggie had been best friends since First year. Even if she didn't need him, he wanted to be there for her. He'd hoped that since they were in different Houses, they might have had a chance of being put together for interhouse cooperation, but it was probably know they were best friends, so. . .

He didn't mind Nick being his date. Really, he didn't. Nick kind of scared him though, because Nick was silent and calm, and didn't seem all that inclined to fun. So maybe this was going to be helpful in that way. Or maybe Nick would just put in a good word for him not to be Head Boy. Dima deserved that. Speaking of Dima, he really wouldn't have minded being with Dima or his cousin Oliver, or Nys, or Erebos, or Zeph, or . . .actually, there were a lot of Sixth years he really wouldn't have minded being paired with, with Dario as the now only-exception, hew as pretty sure. After all, Oralie Slughorn and Rhea Nott would want to find someone better suited for them, personality-wise. His bloodline and name was really the only reason he fit in with them, and the Fawleys were supposed to be a neutral family.

His parents had sent him some dress robes for him to wear. Black and fancy, he'd tried them on before seeing that everyone else was dressing. . .not so much to that level, so he'd switched to a suit. Like most purebloods (he thought, he really only knew some) he preferred robes over suits, but it was always good to follow the general style. He wouldn't want to be laughed at, after all.

He'd been pleased to see that Sadie was with Greyson. they'd be good to each other. The boy his brother was with, he didn't know too well. And he was with his cousin's boyfriend. A laugh bubbled out of his throat. "As do you." Well-tailored and well-made, he'd always half-wondered where the other, older boy had his outfits done. It wasn't much of a T&T cast, or Malkin's style, but. . .he knew the other boy's mother was Muggle-born, like Aunt Brigid's mam. He wanted to ask if she was-- how she was doing, but this wasn't the right time.

"Shall we dance?" That was something her certainly knew how to do. "Or if you'd prefer your boyfriend. . . "

@dionysus
The idea of going to dance where you were paired with someone you didn’t choose was ridiculous but then again, Vet knew she had to be brave and try new ideas. She definitely wouldn’t have succeeded in Gryffindor like her younger brother. She was glad that her sister had come to help her go shopping to pick out a dress. That was the easy part in Vet’s opinion. She knew that her friends would be there so she was looking forward to them. There were no telling right now who her partner would be, at least she was going to try and have fun with them if she did have to spend the evening with them. She also looked forward to seeing how over the top the Great Hall had been decorated for the evening. She knew that the elves went to a lot of trouble each time and she hoped that they now had the night off but she knew it would not be true. They were probably going about their business as usual, washing clothes and cleaning the place.

Vet tried to stop thinking about the house elves as she arrived at the dance, looking around she noticed a lot of pink about. She was glad about her decision to wear white instead. She thought she could pull the colour off well. There were some arguments if it was even a colour or not but that was not her concern at present. She glanced over at @dima. As much as she had a soft spot for Dima, she knew the two of them would never happen and she should not dwell on it. It was not fair on either of them. Just because the two of them happened to be close friends, it did not mean they had to now become a couple. It was also not fair on who her date was for tonight. She found @dionysus. He was very a suit and he was wearing it very well. Vet tried to look him over as subtly as possible. She wasn’t sure if she managed that or not but it was not important now.

”Thank you….you look rather handsome yourself, trying to impress someone this evening are we?” She asked him teasingly. He had already impressed her, not that she would be able to tell him that. She never had a boyfriend herself so the idea of complimenting a guy was a little foreign to her unless it was Dima but this was Nys and her housemate. It was the perfect situation to get to know him. ”The decorations? I guess the Elves don’t hold back, maybe if they ask feedback after tonight, we should tell them to hold back for next year” she laughed as she slipped her arm into his.

Vet took a deep breath and hoped she didn’t make a fool of herself tonight. When she relayed back to Viv how tonight went, she didn’t want to have to retell any embarrassing stories about herself. She noticed he had been looking about and she assumed he was keeping tabs on his friends. He was popular, that much Vet knew about Nys, other than how hot he looked in a suit. ”Do you really want to keep admiring the decorations?”Come on Nys, let's go get a drink….” she said beginning to lead him over to the refreshments area.

Stupid Cupid stop picking on me
hey hey set me free

There was something about romance that put her in a good mood. Something about being out with someone that made her feel special at times, but it wasn't like she knew all that much about it. Thanks to her sister, most of her dates had bailed on her, but she was fine with it. Most of her focus had been on school anyway. Or whatever Mona was up to. She had her brothers and her nephew to help her keep her mind off things when she needed them. Like her mother's birthday, or her own birthday. She hated it. She hated everything about it, but there was nothing to do for it. Not like her father would talk to her over those things. Not like he was ever really around for any of them, but she didn't like to think about that, she knew what it did to her and tonight was supposed to be fun. Tonight she was supposed to be having fun and not feeling sad because her father blamed her for her mother's death.

She had been doing her hair, that would not freaking behave, and was almost late. She rushed towards the Great Hall, holding her bag with spare make up, and some tissues, because she never knew if she was going to need them or not. Walking into the Great Hall she found Erebos easily and smiled at him and let out a long breath. She did a small turn for him and laughed when she saw he was wearing shades as she turned back around. Slick. Taking his arm she smiled at him and walked with him into the hall. She hated the colors of Valentine's day and much preferred black and red as a theme. Maybe it was a little sinister, but hey.

"A mission, what are we? Secret Agents? Shall we have code names then? Shall I be Eager Beaver and you be Smoking Fox?" She asked with a laugh. Looking to where Hades was she shook her head. She knew the history of Erebos, thanks to her sister and her love of Gossip and sighed softly. Mandy, the poor lass didn't have an easy go of it, but she wanted to have fun. "Sure, let's do it. "

Valentine's Day Ball
February 14th, 2019
Date: Aphrodite Herraro-Morgan

This was definitely an unusual approach to the VD Hogwarts celebration. One that Emanuel could sort of get behind. He had someone he had wanted to ask--and was eager to see tonight--but he thought removing all the pressure from finding someone to go with (and for the unfortunate few who would get turned down time and time again and go alone or not at all) was probably good for overall morale. It wasn't like the school staff was trying to get them to date their 'dates'. It was just to mix and mingle and bring new friend groups together.

Emanuel did not have a lot of faith that it would make much of a change long term, but it was something. And the statement Isolde MacMillan seemed to be making in his opinion was that the days of Flint's horrific, rather terrifying dances were over. These were going to be events about school unity and fun--not blood purity and persecution. He could definitely get behind that.

He was sporting some Gryffindor pride in his suit for the night---a muted gold with ivory accents. Much better than red for him to wear, since his ginger hair was not the best match for bold crimson. He found his date wandering about near the tower. He'd meant to walk down to find her in the dungeons but she seemed to have made better time than him on getting ready--or perhaps started earlier. He'd spent more time than he should reading briefs to prepare case summaries for that thestral breeding case.

Emanuel made some unimportant small talk on the way down to the Great Hall. He'd complimented the Slytherin on her dress, said she looked lovely, all the nice things a wizard was supposed to say to his date--platonic or otherwise. She did look pretty, too; he had eyes and could appreciate that. Even if she was a bit bristly. He liked his witches a bit more refined. His date emphasized her rough edges when they entered the Great Hall, profanity falling naturally and easily off her lips. He had no problem with coarse language, and was guilty of it of it on the pitch from time to time, but it was not particularly common for him to swear.

"That is a lot of pink," his eyes widened a bit as he took in the whole display. "Very festive," he continued, laughing a bit, because really what else was there to do? His gaze swept over the room, seeing who was there already and maybe, possibly looking for a certain someone. Brown eyes fell on a blue silhouette and Emanuel was floored.

He was dumbfounded for a moment. His date spoke to him, but his brain was slow to process the words. He was staring. He needed not to stare. He turned (okay, maybe jerked) his head toward Aphrodite, wrinkling up his face in something that was a mix of disagreement and confusion. "Rude!" he joked, teasing thick in his tone. "We look bloody fantastic. Contrasted, not clashing-" Emanuel insisted, being very jovial and amicable with his date. He was confident the pair of them could have a good time.

Valentine's Day ball
Hogwarts 2019
Date: Ramona Cassieopia Baumgarten

This was a suit. He was wearing a proper suit. Sort of. He had not picked it. He had not purchased it. The Aubreys had sent it for him. Devin has not keen on wearing it. He didn't know how to tie a bowtie or fasten a cummerbund. But Octavian would not hear of him not wearing it. What did he have to wear instead anyway? ...his uniform? No. He had to wear the suit--with it's crimson lapels and bowtie and shiny paisley pattern against the white.

Devin felt ridiculous. But his mate swore he looked as fit and dashing as he had ever looked. So, no matter how out of sorts he might have felt in the get-up, the Wright was all strut and swagger as he descended from Gryffindor Tower.

Dates had been assigned for the dance--and it wasn't his that worried him so much as Sasha's. She was paired with Clio, who was cool---but also violent. With the mouth his ex-sort of, maybe-once-upon-a-time girlfriend had, Devin was really worried that his teammate would just punch the Augustine right in the face. He didn't want that. He wanted to have a good time. They had been through so much shit. She deserved it. So, he had sought @clio out in the common room before going down to the dance. "Yo, Clio, favor," he said, flashing her a toothy grin. "Tonight, I need you not to punch, Sasha, alright? Yeah...like she is probably gonna run that mouth, but shit sucked when we were gone. Like for real. So, tonight should be fun and I'll owe you." And he dropped a flask into the girl's lap as a little bit of prepayment on the whole thing. He gave her a wink and headed out of the common room.

He had not had to ask anyone to be his date tonight since the new Headmistress was pairing them up herself. Hopefully, his date would look hot. He had known Mona a little bit before getting shipped off to Kolna, when they had been the same year...but he hadn't really seen her much since coming back. Not like they ran in the same circles. She had always been shy and he was always loud. It would be a little challenge for him to see just how much he could get her to open up tonight.

First though, he had to find her. It was easy enough, since she was right there by the door. His smirk grew as he took in the dress she was wearing and the way it pushed her chest up. This night just looked liked it got a lot more fun. Maybe she was one of those shy girls who was really a total freak in the sack. He could definitely get behind that.

"Damn," Devin drawled as he drew closer to her. "You are looking fit as fuck, Mona." His compliment was heavy with appreciation as he moved his eyes over her and up to her face. That devil-may-care grin flashed, his dimples winking at her as they formed handsome divots in his face. He offered her his arm, because he could play the gentleman in at least that. He knew girls liked that stuff and if he was going to make the best of this little set-up, he had to make the girl feel like a princess for long enough to convince her to lose the dress and heels...maybe down at the boat house...or down in the magical creature anatomy lecture hall. There were spots to slip off to. He just had to convince her she wanted to that. A few dances and some  spiked punch would help that argument along considerably.

Stupid cupid your a mean guy
wish i could cut your wings so you can't fly

Love and romance were not things that she understood. All that she knew was from watching her mother and her friends and most of the time it seemed to just serve to get you hurt, and that was not exactly something that she really thought that she wanted. Though that was until she looked at couples around her, and saw that she was pretty much the only person that she knew that was not only still a virgin but had not been kissed. It made her feel a little ridiculous, and she was well aware that there was a good reason for it. Not that she was blaming Summer for it this time, but instead her own inability to want to talk to people or be around them. It was funny that she didn't like people at all, but she didn't like being alone either. She could go all day and no one speaks to her and be totally fine with it. It was something that she was used to doing, something that she had been used to all of the time because she was afraid. Not of people in general, but of losing people. She didn't want to make friends just to watch them walk away as if she didn't matter. Like she had family do.

It was hard, so very hard for her to watch, and something that haunted her constantly haunted her dream, and the way that she lived her life. She was going to have to get over this fear, and she knew it. She knew that Winter was right and she couldn't spend the rest of her life hiding because she was scared to get hurt. She had a plan to tell Dima that she liked him and then he got a girlfriend so that ship had sailed, but it wasn't too late for her. She wasn't ugly or stupid. She could put herself out there and maybe she could get some more friends, and maybe a boyfriend or something like that. Tonight was the new chapter for her, and she had to think that way. A positive mindset would go a long way, she just had to hold herself to it.

When Devin complimented her and her instinct told her that she should hide behind her hair, but instead she looked him in the eye and grinned. "Looking pretty fit yourself, Devin. Nice threads. " She said as she admired the pattern on it and gave him a grin before taking his arm. As they entered the hall she sighed softly. "Why do I feel like this is going to suck more than the Yule balls usually do?"

Cupid's Got Bad Aim
Just waiting for your friends to leave and finally so can we.

Like any other person in a relationship, Zoe wanted to spend her time at this dance with her boyfriend. It was honestly her first time being in a relationship with someone for Valentine's dance. That's why she and Dima had come up with the plan. After all how hard would it be to convince their dates that they were both crushing hard on each other? Certainly, if you do it right the glancing over the both would do will aid in making it plausible. There was no doubt they could pull this off. Well, that was until they learned who they were paired with. It put a bit of a dent in the plan for sure.

It was probably not the greatest idea now. Dima had been paired up with Arthur Stroud in the school's attempt at house unity. Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw getting put together. A dangerous partnership for sure. The great houses of yellow and blue had nearly torn each other apart for years now. Gryffindor and Slytherin's rivalry is nothing compared to The one between Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. Zoe was very happy that they were doing this dance.

Dima was looking over at her now. She felt like she was going to have a harder time getting out of the whole date. She was positive Arthur had someone he wanted to spend his time here with. Maybe she could make a bit of a scene to get out of this all. She could accidentally roll her ankle. She was wearing heels after all and Zoe wasn't a big fan of heels. She didn't wear them too often and with her clumsy past, it was believable. She could roll her ankle and Dima could come and help her to the hospital wing. She wasn't a giant fan of the whole damsel in distress thing but honestly, if it meant there was a possibility that Dima would carry her around then she could adjust her thoughts on the situation. Zoe winked back at Dima. It was go time.

Zoe's date for the dance was Rhea Nott. A fellow pureblood. A Slytherin. She had no problems with the other girl. There was truly no reason to. But that did not change the fact that Zoe wanted nothing more than to be free from Rhea. "There is probably some sort of after-party that will potentially be followed by its own after party," Zoe explained, her voice not completely serious about it all. She had been so focused on planning her get away she wasn't completely sure if there was a party. She rather liked the parties in the common room after the dance when there was one. It was usually the older students that claimed the room. She tended to hand out with Bella during those. If not she would just crash in the dorm. As great as a good after party was she did wish it Was something Dima could attend. But no. He had to be a Ravenclaw.

Cupid's Got Bad Aim
'Cause space is just a word made up by someone who's afraid to get too

Was he avoiding his so-called friend date at the moment? Yes. Did he totally have a plan to be the most gentlemanly guy to Oliver tonight? Of. Freaking. Course. Why else would one show up as early as possible so he could pick roses from the decorations in order to make a small bouquet for his date? It was most certainly not so he could give them to Mona because of the massive crush he had for her at the moment. He had planned the whole flower thing before he had seen the makeover her friends had given her. In fact, he was unable to imagine what she would look like tonight.

He had perfected his bouquet when he spotted Mona. However, he had no idea it was Mona at first. She was breathtaking for sure. Hayden had stopped in his tracks when it hit him that the hed head in the blue dress was her. Stunning. He cursed at himself. Things used to be so simple. He looked down at himself as his free hand patted the blue fabric of his suit. He had to look better than his best if he was going to do this. Hayden looked up. His hand now running through his hair to make sure that it was also in place. HIs hand would stop at the back of his head when his eyes met Mona walking away with who must be her date. He felt defeated. He was hoping that he would be able to get to her beforehand. He was prepared to go to her even if her date was there but his courage left him. He cursed at himself as he pulled his eyes away and searched for his date.

"Oh Oliverrr," he sang to himself as his scanned the crowd and he maneuvered himself around the other bodies in the room. Upon finding the Ravenclaw he smiled brightly and held out the roses to him. "For you," he winked. "Listen, my plan is to woo you. I got a lot going on in this beautifully haired head of mine right now but you got all my attention tonight. I'm all for this house unity shit so like let's unify or whatever," Hayden was silence for a brief moment. He leaned closer to whisper to the other "If you want to dance we should probably wait for a slow song. I can not dance to save my life."

[break][break]
[attr="class","cbody"]A dance.
[break][break]
Her first one since being back at Hogwarts and she couldn’t for the life of her figure out how she even felt about it. It was a difficult feeling to put into words. Coming back to the castle should have been a good thing. It should have meant that everything was going back to normal. That she was back where she belonged, or whatever, but it wasn’t the same. She didn’t think that it was what had changed, honestly. Everything was exactly the same. Same stupid stone walls that made it cold everywhere unless you were in front of the fire, same long trek through the grounds to get to the Quidditch pitch when she decided to care about a match, some inane chatter in the Great Hall. Same girls that had wanted to impress her back then were still here now.
[break][break]
Everything was the same. She just wasn’t sure that she was. But she was trying to be. That was the whole point of this. Going back to who she used to be, the person that she was. Who she had been before all of this had happened. Going through the motions was not all that difficult. She could put on a good face and act the same. The only person that wasn’t falling for it was her.
[break][break]
She had thought there was a chance that a dance might help. She did like having an excuse to dress up. It had taken only a call to her favorite shop back in London and a dress had been mailed to her. It had fit her perfectly, of course—there was a benefit in her preferred shops having her measurements on file. The color fit the theme of a Valentine’s Day ball without screaming it. She would not be caught dead in red or a brighter pink on Valentine’s Day. That was just so overdone.
[break][break]
The assigned dates were a downer on this whole affair, if she was being perfectly honest. It was obvious what they were trying to do. Forced bonding, inner-house unity—we are one school and all that. But that was easier said than done, wasn’t it?
[break][break]
What the staff’s motives had been aside, Sasha just was not in the mood to deal with @clio tonight. The Gryffindor had been a year below her before the registration, but now they were roommates. Assessing her had been easy, and she had decided that she didn’t like her. Too loud, too much of a tomboy, too unable to get through a sentence without cursing. Hadn’t she heard what they said about people who cursed too much? Limited vocabulary.
[break][break]
But whatever. They had to get through the dance, or at least some of it. She had no idea if the staff was going to keep an eye on who split up from their pairs after immediately walking through the door. Surely, they couldn’t care that much, could they? She walked down here with Clio—hard not to, they had come from the same common room. That was more than enough socialization in her book.
[break][break]
Her gaze moved about the room for a moment, wondering what the odds were that staff members honestly would be keeping an eye on who ditched their partners. It was too early for that. She should probably wait at least a little while. But what did you talk to cursing tomboy Quidditch players about? Dirt? Broomstick polishing techniques—the dirtier meaning of that almost made it amusing enough to try out, but instead, she only sighed. “Isn’t it so sad that people think Valentine’s Day means you have to dress in red or pink?” She shook her head, her eyes taking in some more unfortunately dressed souls throughout the room. “Some people just don’t have the complexion for it.” Hadn’t someone talked them about that? It was nothing short of a tragedy.

find what I need
come and go as i please
i've got my skeleton key

Un ball was something that Luna could always gaudir. She was sure that there would be people queixant-se about their ‘soci’ for the evening, but Luna didn’t mind. The chance to observer everyone else there was worth going no matter whom her soci was. It just so happened to be a snake that she had, at least a little, familiarity with. Miranda and @karel had been… Whatever they had been doing, and Luna thought that she had gotten in the boy’s way more than a few times. Still, they could get along well enough for this. She was sure that she was not his first choice of soci either, and she didn’t think that there was any reason they couldn’t help one another.

That was what this was for after all. Fent amics.

Luna had read the memo, she knew what it was that they were supposed to be doing. She had just so happened to be paired with someone that she already knew. And that at least made cooperation easier. And his arrival to pick her up. The Catalan witch had watched his eyes linger over Oralie Slughorn as she had walked past, and the faintest hint of a smirk played on her lips before she brushed it away. There was no need to tell the world what it was that she had seen. “Thank you.” Her English was still broken, purposefully, more than not anymore. But she rather liked the illusion that she still didn’t know a whole lot of what she was saying.

“You look…” Pausing to find the word that she wanted as they made their way out of the common room, she smiled at him, “Guapo.”1 And she didn’t have to really think too hard to come up with that, it was simply better to speak in Catalan. A little mystery was the fun part, after all. And there was no one that was going to mind if she really did speak like that. They were going to work together this evening, they were going to be cordial, and she thought that by the end of the night, there was plenty of a chance that they could both get what it was that they wanted.

The small snort that came out of Luna’s nose when they entered the Hall was covered quickly by a laugh. “There is tant… Festive.” The hand that wasn’t on Karel’s arm gestured vaguely at the decorations of the hall. It would have been enough that even Graci might have considered it overkill, and her germana was one to enjoy being overly elaborate in the appropriate settings. Mami probably would have thought that it was as espantós as Luna did. It was just a lot… And it made her grateful that she hadn’t chosen that pink dress that Graci had liked so much.

Her current choice of attire did something to make it feel a little less like she had just stepped into the inside of a bleeding heart. And there were some other darker colored dresses around as well. Slytherins, it seemed. And Ravenclaws. That had opted for colors that were not entirely ‘festive’ even if they were pretty. “Una beguda would be agradable.”1 Her words were mixing in both languages as she spoke, but her hand lifted to indicate the closest drink table as she nodded. This might just work, if she kept an eye out for @angus, just to see whom it was that he had been paired with. Then she could decide just how she wanted this evening to go. Whether or not she would stay with Karel, and strike up a friendship, or continue on in her game with the young detective.

1“Guapo.” - handsome
2 “Una beguda would be agradable.” - A drink would be nice.
