Personally, Aphrodite thought this whole thing was shit.

It was stupid and there was too much damn risk. She'd hoped the new Headmistress had enough sense to try to not patch things together, because when Aphrodite had heard the words Interhouse Cooperation, she'd gone out to the field and hit as many Bludgers as she could towards a cutout that roughly resembled Jones. Oh, it would be amazing if she'd gotten one of her Greek friends or Roxy, but she doubted that she'd be so lucky. She'd gotten up before the crack of dawn, tugged along as many teammates as were willing, grabbed her broom, changed into her practice robes, and hit Bludgers again, because if she was going to be paired with Jones, she would kill her.

Actually, no. They would kill each other, and Aphrodite would be free and they'd carry on in glorious rivalry. Because this wasn't just some silly schoolyard thing. They were always going to be rivals, she knew that, because they'd be competing for that one Beater spot that would be free. Jones had been on first-string longer, but that was only because previous Captains had liked their teams staying consistent, and last year Aphrodite kept getting detention, and she'd been out the entire week that try-outs were near so Karel had gotten it. Not that he wasn't good, but a fair match would have been interesting.

But Artemis had dragged her down, called up and yelled that she was with Jones, so then obviously Aphrodite had to fly down to plot revenge and then she saw that she most definitely was not with Jones. She could have punched Artemis for the joke. As it was, she certainly swore vengeance. Then Artemis dragged her back to the dorm and everyone was getting ready, and so she'd have to really show up Jones, right? She'd written home about this even, claiming that she needed to look better, and someone-- Ma or Papá-- had found her the dress and sent it over. Normally, Aphrodite wouldn't be caught dead in dresses or make-up, but this was an ever-present war she was in, and she needed every advantage she could get.

So she'd showered, and asked Oralie for some tips and she knew she came out looking pretty. It wasn't Quidditch afterparty, by any regards so if Jones showed up like that she'd strangle her with the cape of her dress, but it was certainly good enough for any formal event she might go to as a Quidditch player. It showed off her arms, like any proper Beater would like. And then she'd gone to the Seventh floor to prowl around. Because she knew where the Gryffindor dorms were, she absolutely did. She had a brother there and all Morgans and MacFustys were Gryffindors so obviously Aphrodite Nia Herraro-Morgan, granddaughter of Morgause MacFusty and daughter of Gwenhwyfach Morgan would know where the family/enemy hid, but. . .

Well, she wasn't as lucky as she would have thought and stalking the halls to try to track down where they were coming from and asking the First years who somehow managed to slip out from under her eye was a little unsuccessful. She'd half-hoped to run into Jones, but she'd managed to not even see the youngest one before her date @emanuel had found her. So maybe Jones was already at the dance, but Aphrodite could have the satisfaction that as much as she hated dressing up, she could look better than the other girl. Besides, Emanuel was another Quidditch player, and he was also friends with Roxy, which would give her another advantage to slowly winning away Roxy and the rest of Jones's Quidditch friends before eradicating her like a nasty case of scale rot and pulverizing her to dust.

She gave a very visible flinch upon entering the room with Emanuel. "Motherfucker, I think I'm blinded." Her eyes scanned the room for The Enemy. "I think we clash a little, don't you? Your hair, my. . .me."

Stupid cupid your a mean guy
wish i could cut your wings so you can't fly

She didn't really get the point of this, even though she was forced to go she wasn't sure why. It was Valentine's dance where they had their dates appointed. Though from what the thing said it was for house unity or interpersonal communications or something like that. She wasn't really sure, but she had a date, and she had to go. The dress she had bought for the Yule ball was not acceptable by any means so she had decided to not wear that, and instead had gone with Winter into Hogsmead to pick it out. She felt pretty naked in it, as it wasn't her style at all, but she was told by both the Lady at Gladrags and her friend that she would look amazing in it so she had bought it with money that she had saved from the last competition that she had won along with shoes.

Despite asking many times if she could wear tights or a cardigan, she dressed, let her friends do her hair and makeup and paced the dorm room until it was time for her to leave. She had no idea why she was nervous, she knew who Devin was, she had seen him around and had heard a lot about him over her time at school. Maybe it was the fear of what Dima would think, of what Hayden would think, she didn't even know if she looked okay and all she wanted was to go hide in her bed. She didn't like things like this. She didn't like new people and knowing that Summer would be there and watching her, that they all would be. Dima would be there, but not with Zoe, but no doubt they would be making a show of it.

She liked the Gryffindor girl well enough, but there was a strong streak of jealousy that went through her. She liked Dima, but she could never say it, would never say it. He was the only person who had ever stood by her and never left her, he was the one person that she knew cared about her. Maybe it was her longing heart wishing for someone to want her or just the fact that he was her best friend and she liked that he gave her attention. This felt different though. Maybe the jealousy was that he paid Zoe more attention than her now (and it was something that she could understand completely) and it went through her mind constantly of the things that they would usually be doing.

Her friends came to collect her and she whined softly as they walked, not wanting to go, but once they got to the door she sighed and held her head high like the others before chewing on her lip as they arrived in the Great Hall. She didn't spot the boy that she had been assigned so she stood by the door, waiting.

I am in love and it's a crying shame
and I know that your the one to blame

She wished that she could say that she would be going to this dance with someone that she liked or someone she cared about. That, however, was not the case. It was never really the case anymore. Kit was married and no longer a part of her life and her boyfriend Brandon was no longer in the school. If she could have him there if she could have just skipped the thing entirely but it seemed this was not to be, that this was nothing that she would ever have. She had to remember who she had thought she was for most of her life was not the woman that she was now. She had to remember that she was not just some half-blood but instead a pureblood. Even if she didn't know the families that she came from. She had been given up for adoption so she knew that she was likely a bastard so that meant that she might bring shame to one or both of the families. It was something that made her uneasy about the way that she lived her life, about the way that she had been treated. She had been tossed away with like a rag and she had no idea as to why.

She was old enough now that she knew the truth she could do with it what she wanted, but she was so unsure of what she wanted to do, or who she wanted to be. What if she found them and suddenly the expectations of her life changed? Would they hate her for the life that she had lived so far? or would she be yet again, cast aside as if she meant nothing? She had no idea but it weighed heavily on her, it drug her spirits down, but in the meantime, she had been focusing on her school. On making new friends and that was what this night was supposed to be about. She was pretty unsure that she would ever feel like she belonged anywhere but the thought of having a family was something that she wanted. It was why she had been so happy to be with Kit because it was one of the things that she had always wanted but never had.

Wearing her new dress that Brandon had helped her pick out she had her hair half pinned up and she thought she looked rather pretty, even if she felt like it was a waste for such a stupid event. She spotted her classmate and approached slowly. "Hey, Hades."

i wish some nights last forever
She didn't mind dances - or else she wouldn't be seeking a career in dance, it wouldn't really be that productive or a use of her time if she didn't like it. But she wasn't used to dances where someone didn't tell her what to wear. And when she'd sent home pictures of the last dance where she'd thrown on the first dress she found in her closet, Winifred had torn into her, so thing time, she'd left her outfit in the hands of one of her friends - though she held veto power if one of them tried to shove her into something she couldn't move in. They'd settled on a loser fitting mocha colored dress that gave her full range of movement and wasn't covered in sparkles. It was nice, but simple and frankly, suprisingly comfortable. But you could bet she was wearing her sneakers underneath. Joys of long dress, she'd discovered - you could wear whatevr you wanted underneath and no one knew. Still, her flat did mean she was even shorter than normal with every other girl wearing heels.

She'd been paired with - a girl on her house team who'd she didn't really have any issues with, though they'd gotten along far better in the earlier years. But the two had had different coping mechanisms to handle the takeover, and it had caused them to drift, though she didn't really blame the other girl. While Ari had only had to deal with struggling over feeling as if she had to take a side - along with watching her friends kicked out and left to the mercy of the death eaters, she knew Vi had suffered a lot more with the change. She'd lost people to death, if what Ari had heard was right - not that she was going to ask, so it was kind of understandable to change.

She was kind of surprised the headmistress had paired people of the same houses, but maybe she'd simply ran out of people to pair, she hadn't been bothered enough to scavenge the list for other duos to assign houses to.

She'd found Vi in the common room and had walked to the dance with her, a faint smile lining her face, though a little unsure what to say. She normally only ever interacted with Violet on set terms - Quidditch or school work. She couldn't remember a time she'd talk to the girl for a reason outside those two. She didn't even know what else the other Hufflepuff was interested in.

"Oh thank you," she answered, bleached blonde hair bouncing as she turned towards the seeker. "I'd rather have worn what you wore, honestly. But last time I tried that my sister found out and chewed me out. I'd rather wear the dress than risk Winifred's wrath again. I got to keep the sneakers though!" Ari offered, yanking back the hem of her dress to reveal the aforementioned sneakers, wiggling her toes to shake her foot.

"Really, you don't dance? Why not? It isn't too hard and you look like you have the body for it." Her nose scrunched and then smoothed back over. "Mhmm sorry. That was probably rude. I know some people don't like it, I just struggle to get that some times. I really like to dance. I prefer jazz, but ballet is more popular."

Cupid's Come Armed This Time

With A Weapon of Blind

Destruction

At least he hadn't had to worry about matching a date tonight, considering they hadn't known who they were being forced taking until it was short notice in the extreme. Or at least, that was the excuse that Zeph was sticking to as he had no idea what the castle's renowned Roxanne Weasley looked like or tended to wear and he wasn't about to chance all those stairs to her common room to find out her plans. He was hedging his bets that green wouldn't be too much of a downer on her lion-esque self. It wasn't like either of them were Slytherin's, and it wasn't as if it mattered either. He had never conformed to the house colours in their entirety. He wore what he liked. And as it was, this suit had been sent courtesy of Sheri and he liked to live, so he hadn't been about to send it back.

Intuition - as well as the dark murmurs that greeted him from before he had even made it into the room of the great hall - told him that the place was decked out in garrish pink and red. Problem? Not for him, he was thankfully prevented from being all that bothered due to his amazingly kind handicap. Indeed, he was sporting an amused smirk that would have reflected in his eyes were they not set resolutely behind his shades, his arm still proferred towards his "date" should she choose to allow him to escort her in or not. Zeph didn't know what embarrassment was as he hadn't experienced such a feeling in well over a decade- walking into things and falling for a living tended to give you a thick skin- and Sheri had raised him to be quite the gentleman. Whether or not any of his peers would judge him on that said more about their character than his own.

Luckily he had Hades, Erebos, Nys and the others nearby and flanking him. Just in case his feet forgot what they were doing since he'd left his stick behind. Falcon was in place, though. Turning to his companion as they walked around the room sedately (he'd stop as soon as he felt a reluctance on her part, just in case he stopped and it turned out he was about to cause a fourteen-person-pile-up), he grinned and sighed contentedly. "Gotta love it when we get new staff... I can practically feel the rose petals in my hair this year," he mused, listening out for either of his mates, "Dare I take this moment, with as much gusto and belief as I can muster, to say you look lovely tonight, Roxy? Can I call you Roxy? Roxanne is beautiful, truly, but long. You can call me Zeph, we'll call it even."

Letting The Days Go By

Let The Water Hold Me

Down

This was the epitome of a nightmare for the socially anxious like himself. Had it not been for the fact that he was bound by sheer loyalty and Sheri to keeping an eye on Zeph and making sure his mates stayed sane, he might even have checked himself into the hospital wing with extreme heart palpitations and chronic, gut-wrenching nausea. Finally they'd been told who they absolutely had to attend the ball with and he'd been lucky in the respect that his 'date' for the evening was a housemate. There were much worse people than Mandy to be stuck with all evening, and as it so happened, he didn't mind the girl. He didn't particularly know her all that well as he kept to himself and the Ironic Fam but that didn't mean he had any issues. Apart from the fact that he really, really, hadn't wanted to go at all

Without thinking, he'd left the common room in a rush with @erebos in order to find Zeph before he yeeted himself down the moving staircases, and then followed himself and Roxanne into the hall. It was only after They'd done a lap of the room that he had realised he'd neglected to bring Mandy along too. Mistake Uno of the night at large. Hopefully also the last one. Luckily, Zeph had kept his bloody trap shut rather than make him traipse back up the stairs in order to find the witch, before their newest, dearest headmistress flayed him for forgetting her, but that also meant that he hadn't taken the initiative himself. Shyness and anxiety stood in his way. The witch who had held his heart for the past two years had left to finish her schooling at Durmstrang and in her place had become a black hole devoid of anything besides misery, and he was still too preoccupied with that to remember that Mandy was also a girl who would expect to be treated like such. Should he manage to bring himself to speak to her at all. Man, he was a mess.

Finally, someone sidled on up to him and said his name and immediately his eyes swung to @dionysus for aid, panic avidly evident in his gaze, then he swallowed and turned to her with a blush. Oh. She was... well her dress was... that was a lot of skin. Clearing his throat, he looked at his feet for a moment and pushed his hands into his pockets. Oh hell. "Oh, hey, Mandy. You errr... nice dress..." he mumbled, smiling at her through his hair. Then he cleared his throat again and then looked to @erebos in the hopes that he'd spring something to save him. Possibly his date.

Cupid's Got Bad Aim
Valentine's Day Ball 2019
Dionysus was one of the few who actually thought this dance was a good idea. Though, he wouldn't dare say it out loud. He had heard many disgruntled students for weeks. In class, on his prefect rounds, at Hogsmeade... No seemed to like the idea, but he did. In truth, his realm of socialization didn't extend very far outside of his ironic family and housemates. Even his housemates, well, there weren't that many he was extremely close to. It wasn't that he hadn't wanted to be. It was more like he had already found the perfect sandwich at the diner down the road. He knew there were other options on the menu, sure he might think of ordering them, but at the end of the day the waitress always brought the same old familiar thing.

Tonight was supposed to stop that cycle. It was supposed to make people talk to those they never did, and maybe even get a chance to.....y'know like them. Or, in the case of his Slytherin friend ....possibly knock their block off. The rivalry she held with @clio was insane. He would try to stay out of it as much he could. As a prefect he wasn't supposed to sit idly by when a Fight On Site order came into fruition. It was lucky for him that his mates had all taken it upon themselves to do him the solid favor of covering his eyes whenever the pair of rivals would get close. He couldn't stop what he couldn't see, right? Even Zeph had tried his best to help whenever he got the whiff of an approaching Clio. More often than not though that was just a smack on the mouth instead of a clasp over his eyes. One day, he was sure, his blind mate would recall the growth spurt of 2018 and hit his target.

Dionysus had been one of the last to leave his common room, having had the lovely task of ushering all students down to the great hall before having left himself. There had been a warning of detention for those who did not attend. Most of the warnings were from himself. To his ironic fam and to others. He'd be damned if he spent his entire night wrangling skippers instead of going to the dance. Especially given that he had been paired with @olivette . She was a housemate of his, one he knew but didn't know. He had always thought that she was attractive, though, so this had seemed the perfect opportunity to get to know her better.

When the last student was shooed downstairs he had made his way down himself to meet with @zephyrus , @fluffyhades , and @erebos . Finding the lot of them was easy enough, he simply had to find the falcon and follow the vibrations of total and utter anxiety that Hades was throwing off. He was a bit nervous himself as he found his partner. "Olivette," Nys smiled in greeting, extending his arm for her to take if she would allow him to escort her in. "You look lovely this evening."

Once inside the feeling of Valentine's-y madness was almost too much for his poor eyes to bare. He was excited about the inter-house unity, but Merlin. The only thing distracting him from the flowery atmosphere was his ever watchful eye keeping tabs on his friends. Zeph, well, aside from near death experiences he wasn't too worried about him. Now Hades... Nys nodded to his panic stricken friend, a sort of you can do this in head bobbling form. He only had to last a moment, surely, as Erebos had made it plenty clear that he was on a set mission to save his best mate.

"Well this is....something," he jested with a smirk, averting his attentions back to his partner. "A bit much, but I suppose Valentine's as a whole is over the top. Though I will say I don't think I can recall the great hall ever smelling so floral." Nys chuckled, but Merlin, was he was nervous. Had Hades given him anxiety by proxy? "What do you think? Shall we admire the decorations and wander over for some punch?" As one of the few and possibly only students who didn't drink he hoped that no one had been ballsy enough to spike the drink just yet.

Valentine's Ball 2019
-mission impossible theme music plays-
He was wearing black. Black like his heart and soul...well, not really. Anyone could tell you that Erebos was far from some dark and twisted being, despite being named after the god of Darkness. Tonight, though, it was all about black. Ninja's wore black. Ninjas....samurais, other equally bad ass people. He was sure of that. James Bond, too, didn't he wear black suits? Eh, who cared. All that mattered was that tonight he was dressed for a mission because that was exactly what he was on. A mission. What was this mission? Save @fluffyhades .

His best mate had been paired with, arguably his least favorite person in existence, @amanda . No one really knew why he hated her so. They had dated for what felt like a split second in third year and ever since he had despised her. And tonight his poor, anxious friend was stuck with the likes of her. Had he been quiet about his plan? No. Hell no; any possibility of this being a covert mission had been long since blown out of existence. His mates knew about it, he obviously knew about it, and @dionysus had even bet on him to be the one paired up with her. What. A. Turd.

Luckily for Erebos he was paired with a much more likable human being, @winter . He was a friendly guy, he had spoken to her a time or two and he figured that being paired with her wasn't nearly as bad as some alternatives. Though he would have rather not gone to this thing at all. Nys had made it very clear that he had to and he wasn't about to make that meek lad give in and do his first Yeet of the year. Being yeeted down the stairs sounded a lot less fun than going to some stupid ball anyway.

He and Hades had left the common room in a bit of a rush, secretly a rush instigated more by him. He didn't want to walk down to the great hall with that blasted Baker girl. With his mate's anxiety through the roof inciting an air of urgency was pretty easy. And it wouldn't hurt to get to @zephyrus sooner rather than later. He couldn't light the same fire under 's arse, though, so he had promised his Koala that he'd see her downstairs.

They had made their way down to the Great Hall pretty quickly, first finding Zeph before he turned his attentions to finding the other Hufflepuff his evening would involve. "Winter, looking snazzy--" he said as  he whipped out a pair of shades that Zeph had given him. He put them on, rolling his neck as if to crack it. "Alright," he said with a smug smirk, "Let's do this." Erebos extended his arm to his date to walk her in. His date, Merlin, was it a date?! More like a partnership in crime. Not that she knew that....yet. They all walked into the hall, he and his mates flanking their falcon carrying friend and forming almost a radius around him. Protection from all sides, hopefully. He was in @roxanne 's care now, though, and Erebos figured he could likely trust his housemate not to let him die.

"So I have a mission, should you choose to accept it," he said grandly, his shaded eyes scanning the scene of his soon to be crime. Kidnapping Hades was a light offense compared to the beating everyone was expecting Clio to put on whoever got Arthur as a date. Erebos' scan finally landed on his date, the pretty little thing she was. He pulled his shades down slightly, looking at her from over the top of them. "It's a rescue mission. Hades is my target, you in?"

((OOC: Donnie's Outfit ))

Donald hated this cupid has a lousy aim idea. The 14-year-old was already struggling to come to terms with being asexual and being forced into a date, of sorts, with a girl seemed to be very bad to him. In fact, he felt the entire them appeared to be very heteronormative. He wasn’t straight, he was queer, at least that is what he was trying to come to terms with anyway. This entire scheme was something that was making the pale-skinned lad feel very conflicted, extraordinarily nervous and fairly upset.

A big part of the Ravenclaw seeker decided if he should not turn up for this stupid idea at all, but decided that he probably should show his face. Maybe he would avoid the person he had been forced to hang with and instead go off and do his own thing. That might be a good idea. In all honesty, he had no plans to go to the Valentine day’s ball. He didn’t have a girlfriend, nor a boyfriend, and he didn’t even want to have a boy or girlfriend. He wasn’t interested in that kind of thing at all.

Don was clearly resentful of the entire idea when he entered the Great Hall, his concern for this whole event clear on his face when he walked in. In any case, Donnie was not very interested in staying that long, this entire event was causing him a lot of stress and concern. The young boy wasn’t sure he could stay in here for long. The Welsh wizard was finding it difficult to breathe, hard to think. He felt like he was about to cry. Why did this event have to happen now? The stress and anxiety were evident on the face of Donald. This was not going to be an enjoyable Valentine’s day dance. Then again it never was.

He was finding it difficult to stay here. The spiky-haired youngster started breathing even more and more heavily. Don was starting to have a bit of a panic attack. Oh god he thought to himself as he looked around for somewhere to sit to try and get some air. The conflict and concern about his sexual orientation were coming more and more to the fore again. Seeing everyone with their playdates or people who had actually managed to dump their forced dates and instead gone with their boy or girlfriends. It was too much for him, he couldn’t hope.

The young lad couldn’t stand it anymore, he felt it way too stressful. Donnie turned around and fled from the Great Hall, leaving his partner. @adrianne , dateless.

But unless she or Remy had thought to sneak in alcohol—or, more appropriately, sweet-talked their dates into doing the sneaking for them, Rhea usually got bored within an hour. The best part of dances were the after parties because, of course, they weren’t meant to be having them. Everything was just a bit more fun when you weren’t supposed to be doing it.

Tonight, she thought her only chance of a good time would come from whatever would happen afterward in the Slytherin common room. After all, the new headmistress had the genius idea to assign them dates. Well—not dates, per say. She didn’t think that the headmistress was trying to convince her to end the night by kissing Zoe Shafiq. But they had assigned them friends, for the sake of inner-house unity or something.

Honestly, the whole concept was a little ridiculous to her. She’d been at Hogwarts for six years. She had the friends she wanted to have. Anyone who didn’t… well, anyone who didn’t probably was far too awkward to come out tonight with any more friends than they’d started with. But more power to the establishment, she supposed, for trying to do something. It was a fair bit better than Headmaster Flint cutting off body parts. As memorable as that dance had been, bloodshed at a Hogwarts ball had been a little much. That was not the kind of drama she was ever looking for.

Rhea knew that she should be grateful, or something, that her aunts hadn’t decided forbidding her from going to the dance would be a good addition to her punishment. She was still dealing with detention three times a week since they’d caught her sneaking back into the castle last month. Three times a week—Merlin, they were meant to be family.

Still, they hadn’t taken her internship away from her. That was something.

Getting into trouble wasn’t something that happened to her all that often. There were certain expectations when it came to being a Nott. Her mother had taught her that from a very young age. She wore the right clothes, talked to the right people, and she acted appropriately. For the most part, anyway. Rosalind Nott had not been all that pleased to hear about her journey to London for Caerus’s birthday party, and she was sure she’d hear more about that when she was home for Easter. Her best lectures were face-to-face, after all.

Her assigned friend-date for the evening had been Zoe Shafiq—which was fine, she supposed. She was pure, she was not sacred twenty-eight, but all things considered, the choice could be worse. Generally speaking, purebloods from Gryffindor were her least favorite, but as long as the witch didn’t attempt to outshine her, as if such a thing was possible, she thought they’d be fine.
[break][break]
Meeting at the entrance of the Great Hall had been the best bet. She wasn’t going to trek past the dance to go to Gryffindor Tower, obviously. It just made far more sense to meet up here. And, hopefully, find @remington as soon as possible. After all, there was no rule for how long they had to spend with their assigned company. “So, any festivities planned in Gryffindor Tower tonight?” She asked, arching a brow as she glanced over at the brunette, before her gaze moved over the hall in mild interest.
